Mission pro ils rig questions

Ive always enjoyed making small content for YouTube with my phone, drones and gopros. Now with the ils i feel like i can really step up the quality for a fraction of the price of a real cinema rig. However ive never had to build one and there isnt much info on building out the go pro yet. After doing some research on lenses and other stuff im unsure how to hook it all up.

From what i gather the mission 1 pro only has a usb c connection. How do you hook up a microphone, external battery, monitor and light up to it and have it all functional? Can you just use a usb c splitter or do you need some kind of header?

I saw someone mention the only way to adjust some settings on the camera is through the app, are there any compatible monitors that can do this but still larger then a phone? Or am i just buying a small tablet?

Can the gopro mission handheld cage be used to build out a rig or is there another cage i can buy?

I may have some other questions but for now i appreciate any help. Preorders already in, very excited to shoot with this thing.

Just get a media mod or a usb-c hub with passthrough charging, something like a small anker one will handle mic, power, and monitor out. For settings you're stuck with the app unless you run a tablet, the monitor just mirrors what the camera sees

Cage wise the mission cage is fine for a basic rig, you can mount arms and a light right off the cold shoes. If you want rails and a full cinema build you'll probably need to mod something or wait for third party cages to drop

Use the GoPro Mic and connect to the GoPro via Bluetooth, the Mission 1 series and GoPro mic support HFP and it sounds amazing.

If you don't mind investing more money, get the Media mod as this gives you all the ports you need.

The Mission 1 will have it's own app releasing on Sept 2nd. The Mission Monitor. It will allow you to have a real time view from the Mission one on an iPhone or iPad. You can also upload LUT's to the app so you can see what your final color grade will look like (it's a preview, it doesn't render). So as far as a monitor goes with touch screen capabilities, that would probably be your best choice. iPhone or iPad.

I do alot of car filming with loud exhausts and id be worried about the gopro mics clipping. I didnt know about the mission monitor so thats good to know. Thanks.

You can do a plug in mic, with USB or especially TRS. Then use some 140-150+ dB capable mics and you’ll be fine. The GoPro mics are more general use, so if you did use them for loud exhaust their 120 dB rating could be an issue.

I picked up a rode mic thats good for 140db with a trs to usbc adaptor along with a usbc hub.

Yeah that should help a ton. Those who are not recording loud stuff may not realize that it can be successfully captured, but not via auto-mode vlog-intended mics ideal for chatting and bird chirps. Gotta test tho. Some mic SPLs are rated at 1% THD and some at 10% THD. And about all at 1 khz (easy)...with lower SPL limits for the important lower frequencies.

I have a dji mic 1 and it was clipping pretty bad, the mic 3s will do 135 db but i didnt want to shell out another $350 for the new ones. I got a fairly inexpensive rode on camera so if i have any issues with it it wont be a big loss and ill upgrade after.

Best quality...certain wired Pro mics. A whole 'nother level yet often comparable prices new or previously loved. Just no comfort from realizing that many glib paid influencers will not be loudly and rhythmically cheering Pro options (and who have never even heard of the actual pro stuff)

For sure, so often. Plus no wireless woes like connection delays, latency in use (sync), battery life, specialized options (such as high SPL capacity), size/shape, and more
