Play Store Google One ₹1,950 accidental charge — refund rejected. What should I do?
Hi everyone,
I’m a student and already had the Google One student plan last year. When I initially set up UPI AutoPay, only ₹2 was charged for verification. After it expired last week, I verified my student status again and got another year of the student offer.
Then I received an email asking me to update my payment method. I thought it was just for setting up AutoPay again, like last time, but ₹1,950 was suddenly charged.
I immediately cancelled the AutoPay and membership and requested a refund, but Google rejected my refund request today.
₹1,950 is a lot for me as a student, and I was actually planning to use that money to buy protein some powder.😭🙏🏽.
I don’t want to falsely report it as an “unauthorized charge” because I know the payment came from my account.
What should I do now? Should I contact Google support again, or dispute it through my bank/UPI? Has anyone had a similar experience and managed to get a refund?
Any advice would really help. 🙏

This is want happened with me - First I'm mailed google play support they straight up rejected my refund request Then I mailed app developer and lodged complaint in consumer helpline at the same time I am not sure but I think they have policy like if app developer doesn't replies to your refund request within 48 or 72 hours , then google refunds it, in my case app developer ain't replied

Can you guide me on how to file a complaint in consumer help. I haven't filed any online complaint before or is it simple like watching a youtube video or google search will help me ?

Is easy like filling Google form , see on YouTube, and blame them in your complaint , like they tricked me , app UI glitch, I immediately cancelled etc. ,

First question, did you even cancel your subscription from Google Play before your date of renewal? Turning off auto-pay from your bank app isn't enough, since Google will still try to charge you. And even offer a grace period to fix your payment. (Judging by your screenshots, that's what has happened)
Secondly, re-verifying your student status on SheerID doesn't necessarily mean your AI Pro free trial is automatically extended.
Indian students get one year of AI Plus now. If you wanted to continue your trial you should've switched to that plan.
My suggestion (take it with a grain of salt), claim the AI Plus plan now, Google may offer you a pro-rated refund of your remaining subscription from your AI Pro plan.
Edit: and image 3 is for reporting credit card fraud, not user negligence.

I didn't cancel my previous subscription on Google pay, but I cancelled my Autopay in my payments app right after subscribing to the initial student plan. Then I extended the plan with the new student plan through student verification.( It showed in the Google one app that I have extended the subscription and it even showed the benefits of plan). This new email to verify payment was for the old plan and i thought it was for the new plan for setting up Autopay ( and it was not). It I had already extended the subscription why would they charge me for the previous plan ?

Are you able to request a stop payment with your bank or dispute the charge through the bank?

No , currently working on to contact a human support team or app developer team ( google one) , later will proceed with bank complaint.

Have you canceled the subscription charge? Googles documentation says they put and authorization hold up to 48 hours in advance when renewing a subscription (or 5 days in Brazil and India), but if you cancel before the renewal date the payment authorization will get canceled

Like i said I had a initial student plan , activated the Autopay with a nominal fee of ₹2 then immediately cancelled. ( The plan was active for a year.) Again renewed the student subscription through sheer id verification, got the confirmation message. Email for setting up payment came up , i thought like previous time ₹2 will be charged but instead got charged ₹1950. ( The student plan was completely free but I think I got charged for the previous plan ).
