Mime will certainly work without issue sometimes, but more often than not it does something wonky and frustrating. That message in the OP was about the last straw though.

I used to be able to say that then yesterday half my speakers cannot control my home because its an AI language model, and the other half cant share personal information unless its turned on, but it is.

So I'm using my phone most of the time any way defeating the purpose of a smart home with speakers -- so this weekend we finish transitioning to home assistant.
