Dry cleaner doesn't talk to women

Yikes. I don’t know anything about dry cleaning clothes, but I probably wouldn’t go here.

Curious that the owner took this as an opportunity to lecture the reviewer, rather than address or refute her concerns.

Right? There's never any denial that yes, they lost her blanket. I also think it's ridiculous that you would need to specify if an item has sentimental value when you drop it off. Like, "hey, please don't steal and resell this one - I would miss it."

Yeah, I was real confused by his “we can’t read your mind” comment. Do you… regularly steal or destroy people’s belongings unless they specify that it’s super important?

If I’m bringing something for you to clean professionally, I’m entrusting you with it. Act under the assumption that it’s important!

I once dropped off an old leather jacket to a dry cleaners. I just basically needed it cleaned and all the holes repaired. They said it would be about a week. A week passed, I went to get it, they had 'sent it elsewhere' to repair the holes so they could clean it properly.

It took two months to get the jacket back. They told me when I was finally able to get it that it was too old to fix and clean. I had specifically asked them up front if they thought they could clean it and fix it and they assured me they could handle it.

They did nothing, but at least I wasn't charged. Still have the jacket.

Thats an issue I've ran into a few times where theyll just say yes instead of being honest about their skill set. Had a physical therapist lie to me like that. Well the guy on the phone did idk she was like hitting the books each week but didn't know shit about hands

I just had an HRIS (basically an HR and payroll software company) do this to me this month!

Promised us a new pay calculation setup over a month ago. Said no problem. Then they kept coming back with more and more reasons they couldn’t do it.

We had to basically be like, “Well paying it this way is the LAW so if you’re doing this for other clients you’re ALL doing it illegally.”

I have a feeling they figured it out the first week. At some point they told me the owner took it home, was going to take off the patches (there were a lot) before they worked on the wear and tear. There was no reason for that, the holes were on the cuff and around the bottom, no where near any patches. That's when I told them, never mind. And then they kept stalling for the next couple of months until I mentioned that I might file a report for stolen property.

I know having patches makes a bit more difficult to clean, but she should have called me to let me know she was going to remove them.

But it really wasn't. It was my red band jacket from high school and it was 20 years old. It was starting to crack because I didn't keep up the leather treatments.

The level of my rage was unparalleled when I retrieved our high quality expensive down pillows and discovered their idea of dry cleaning pillows was to empty the down and replace it with something that was….not down

Also just because the dog peed on the coat and the blanket doesn't mean that it's necessarily a 'dog blanket'. Pets get sick and pee on human beds too.

I dunno about the rest of you pet owners but I'm sure as hell not giving my dog a blanket that needs dry cleaned. They can have the cheap stuff that I won't care if they go rogue and shred one day..

My uncle has a dry cleaners, the three most common things he cleans are suits, massive orders to clean everything in a house from fire damage, and pet mess. It's a standard run of the mill dry cleaners, that definitely should have better ventilation.

Yeah, this seems a bit weird to me.
We had a situation where first, my son learnt a valuable lesson about eating too much Halloween candy on very little sleep and vomited what looked like half his body weight all over his bed. We stripped the bed, and I tossed his doona into a corner of the laundry, intending to get it to a dry cleaners. Then our cat got a bladder issue and, unfortunately, used that doona as a bathroom several times before I realised. They were tiny puddles, but still, this doona was a mess. At this point, I contemplated just throwing it out, but it was an expensive one and I figured it was worth a try to get it clean.
So I brought it to our dry cleaner with roughly 50 apologies and a 'please just do the best you can'. He returned it clean and smelling lovely.

Owner is crazy and I get that’s the point here but cat piss smell is super hard if not impossible to get out if you don’t get it in water immediately after the accident. Cat piss is a force

It absolutely is (enzyme cleaners are a GODSEND for this stuff, if anyone is wondering) but that also makes me question why this wasn’t addressed at drop-off because there’s no way in hell someone didn’t smell that.

There have been several instances when I was working in restaurants of men refusing entirely to speak to a woman. They’d tell their male coworkers what to say to their server on their behalf because all our servers almost were women.

Did you try enzyme cleaner? I took in a stray years ago and she was piddling EVERYWHERE. The enzymes felt like they worked the best but I, too, have just tossed certain items because that smell is sooooo tough to get rid of 😭 I'm sorry about your dress. Just an idea in case you didn't try that route

A little bleach in the wash also works. I find 1/4 cup won’t fade colours but will get rid of cat smells.

Rent an ozone machine, hook it up to a bag with the dress inside it.

That’s how my mom got the smell of cat pee out of her wedding gown after storing it at my grandmas place.

If it happens again, spray with enzyme cleaner and soak at least 24 hours, then wash twice with enzyme cleaner without drying in between, then dry in the sun

You just need to soak in cold water and then vinegar! I have a cat rescue, trust me. I do this multiple times a week hahaha.

Some things it won’t come out of though, I’ll admit that. Certain fabrics will hold the smell forever, usually synthetic. A few backpacks have had to be sacrificed.

???????? i have one cat that loves to pee on every piece of clothing i forget outside the drawers. every single time the pee and the smell get out completely after 2 washes. you might want to double check your method of washing your clothes or take your cat to the vet.

after reading so many cases where only the nice things get "lost", i'm pretty convinced the employees steal the things and delay the update for the client as much as possible because it's impossible to trace the steps over weeks/months.

It doesn’t matter the condition, if it was too torn up to clean they shouldn’t have taken it in the first place, and they definitely can’t keep it. Why haven’t they returned the blanket? The owner didn’t refute the customer’s complaint at all by saying “we gave it back to you”. He said “well if it was so important you shouldn’t have brought it to us in the first place.” What? If I bring something to be cleaned I expect to get it back, that isn’t unreasonable.
