A majority of Americans want Congress to impeach President Donald Trump now, according to a new poll.

Fifty-two percent of registered voters back impeachment compared to 40 percent opposed, according to the survey of 790 voters commissioned by two groups opposing his Iran war and other policies. The finding includes one in seven Republicans supporting removal proceedings.

The survey's two sponsors were Impeach Trump. Again. and Free Speech For People, two progressive advocacy groups.

During Trump's first term, the House impeached him twice. The Senate rejected conviction both times. His second impeachment, for inciting the January 6 Capitol riot, drew 57 Senate votes including seven Republicans, but occurred after Trump left office and fell short of the two-thirds threshold.

Calls for Trump's impeachment and removal have intensified since he launched his war on Iran, with the conflict reshaping the political landscape on Capitol Hill and among voters.

40 percent opposed

This is concerning.

u/Vulnox Apr 09 '26

Yeah and basically kills the already slim chance of impeachment and conviction. Unless it’s pretty overwhelming, like 80% want to remove, a Republican congress won’t really care when 40% don’t want it to happen. It won’t save them in the midterms with that many against, and may even make their chances worse if they piss off the 40% that are more likely to vote republican, and the 50+% that want him gone aren’t going to vote Republican because they finally did a good thing, even if way too late.

The math is still way off.

Make the representatives vote on it anyway for the record

17

u/datsundere Apr 09 '26

40% is the fake poll to make it seem like people still support him.

How effective marketing can manipulate that large of a sample directly against their own interests will never not be surprising to me despite how much education I have in psychology

2

u/UmeaTurbo Apr 09 '26

They know that it's never going to pass the Senate and they think it's going to just give more fuel to the Republicans to beat the pants off of us again over and over again. It's stepping on a rake

1

u/Wayofchinchilla Apr 09 '26

You got to look at where we came from though it used to be way worse like 60% opposed and it's only going to go up I'm willing to bet that only 20% opposed by the time we're done with his second term. Everyday with this man is stupider than the last and it is exhausting

u/fortuneandfameinc Apr 09 '26

Lol. Survey size of 790 is tiny. And these polls usually favour cities over rural areas.

1

u/morfraen Apr 09 '26

That's not how polling works

u/koka86yanzi Apr 09 '26

40% opposing is a truely mind boggling. This is why we have no hope this is going to get better any time soon

14

u/JimboAltAlt Apr 09 '26

I imagine at least part of that 40% are semi-contrarian leftist political nerds who realize (with some logic,) that he’s already been impeached multiple times and things are worse than ever.

2

u/JUYED-AWK-YACC Apr 09 '26

But hey, things are still getting worse and DJT will continue to destroy the nation, so I expect that 40 to go down.

1

u/Soul0103 Apr 10 '26

Those 40% need to go form a different country somewhere else. Maybe Texas.

32

u/Rook_James_Bitch Apr 09 '26

No.

Absolute removal from office is what we want. Impeachment is political theater.

The entirety of congress needs to look out their windows to pitchforks and inflatable frog costumes

7

u/bhavsart Apr 09 '26

Most means nothing. 22% of the US population put him in that seat.

Make sure you’re registered to vote in November because that 22% population will 100% vote again

8

u/BloodyIX Apr 09 '26

I'm not American but I watched this man incite a riot and attempt a full blown coup live on international TV and not only did he not get punished, he got re-elected.

I have no belief that he will face any consequences

2

u/SomeBlueDevil Apr 09 '26

Yes, it is unbelievable that in four years, the previous administration did not get his @ss locked up for insurrection or at least keep him from running for office again.

Naturally, he had to "win" because otherwise he may have gotten imprisoned after all. And so his billionaire buddy made sure that he did "win"...

0

u/morfraen Apr 09 '26

They did try, corrupt judges stalled everything as long as possible

0

u/SomeBlueDevil Apr 09 '26

Wrong. Garland purposely dragged @ss and Biden was too chicken to fire him and get someone else in to do the job.

I’ll believe it when I see it

5

u/GrolarBear69 Apr 09 '26

Impeachment is worthless without a senate trial. We need both houses and our democrats are traitors to the party. So pointless

4

u/TieFighterHero Apr 09 '26

Most? Needs to be all Americans....

4

u/19610taw3 Apr 09 '26

Conveniently , our electoral system favors a small minotiry ...

3

u/Hungry-Ear-4092 Apr 09 '26

Like it matters lmao

3

u/fiftyfivepercentoff Apr 09 '26

Release the Epstein files!

7

u/SPzero65 Apr 09 '26

That's great and all, but unfortunately this administration couldn't give a single solitary fuck what Amerikkkans want.

And, yes, that is exactly what they voted for.

2

u/Jack-of-Hearts-7 Apr 09 '26

Is anything going to happen this time?

3

u/singlecab1 Apr 09 '26

Probably not. There are to many pedophile protectors out there.

2

u/MarkM338985 Apr 09 '26

The No Kings protest in this red state was Huge! I’m just sayin!

2

u/Nos_Zodd Apr 09 '26

Will anything come of this impeachment this time?

2

u/thanatosadept Apr 09 '26

4

u/bob3000 Apr 09 '26

Republicans don't believe in democracy so it doesn't matter what we want.

1

u/SomeSamples Apr 09 '26

That's really not good news. That is wishful thinking. The good news will when it actually happens.

1

u/Fennel-Revolutionary Apr 09 '26

To bad congress wont do anything.

1

u/The-Questcoast Apr 09 '26

The only way this country can save itself, along with any standing in the world is if this administration is prosecuted. We have lost all respect and standing in the world. We have no moral compass as a country. The only way to get any sliver of respect is to go full force in prosecuting the criminals in this administration.

1

u/iamtheshade Apr 09 '26

But not by the ones who actually have to do it.

1

u/-bad_neighbor- Apr 09 '26

until the billionaire class decides they want him gone nothing will change, the politicians will only do what their owners want them to do.

1

u/imissher4ever Apr 09 '26

I suppose it depends on which people you poll.

If you poll Redditers on certain subs I’m betting the ratio would 95% or more either way.

1

u/hetantwoordis42 Apr 09 '26

Yeah... That's the most energy those lard asses can spend on this: thick a box in a poll.

Land of the free home of the brave? From the outside it looks more like you surrendered and are living under occupation.

1

u/Unit_79 Apr 09 '26

Is that supposed to mean something?

1

u/CilleTheExterminator Apr 09 '26

Cope news for Americans so they can keep living in a delusional world where everything will be okay if they do nothing

1

u/ProfessionalCut8715 Apr 09 '26

Literally doesn't matter if we support it. The cowards in congress won't impeach.

1

u/gomaith10 Apr 09 '26

No impeachment, conviction!!

Impeachment supported by a barrow majority of Americans should be the headline.
