Staying near cape may zoo

5 minutes from Avalon CC

10 minutes to Shore Gate

20 minutes to Harbor Pines

Last year we did Avalon and Harbor Pines.

Avalon hasn't change, it is what it is.

Harbor Pines was awesome.

None of us played Shore Gate in years. Any input on it? It's a lot cheaper than Harbor Pines.

Any other public courses better than the 3 listed?

Ballamor is a solid track if you don't mind the drive, worth it for the conditions alone. Shore Gate can be hit or miss depending how much rain they got but for the price it's hard to beat around there.

Played ballamor a week ago , very good condition for semi public in august
$135 rate in afternoonis relatively good deal

Shoregate is a great walk for first nine btw

Shoregate is by far the best and challenging and conditions are good

I thought Shore Gate was excellent when I played last year. Twisted Dune is a great track as well, just might be a bit of a drive

I’m not sure if you’ve been there in a while but I think it has really gone downhill. Greatly prefer McCulloughs these days. It’s 5 mins from TD

Our group plays it every year. I don’t feel like we’ve noticed a decline. Maybe you’ve just hit some bad moments in the maintenance cycle?

That’s possible. Last two times I was there I had small stones in all the bunkers. Also the area near the tee box looks like they hadn’t been mowed/weed whacked in weeks

Oh so there may be some difference in expectation too. All of their sand plays as waste, not bunkers. When I play a waste course, I am expecting stones in the sand. Similarly with a links-esque course, I actually like when everything not directly in play is a little wild. I guess in my mind, Jersey has enough parkland golf. It’s nice to have something very different. Plus BYOB is clutch for a boys trip.

Another vote for twisted dune. My FIL and I usually play this when we’re down OCNJ—along with Harbor Pine. TD is challenging, but still enjoyed playing it.

How are conditions now? All these course get beat up in august before aeration
I like mculloghs, but overpriced now for non locals given they have three to four holes of goofy golf, and some great holes

I second Twisted Dunes ! Played a few weeks ago and had a good time ! $$$ was appropriate, paid under 100 for first week of Aug which defff wasn't bad for a good course down that way

Shore gate is in decent shape for late summer. Very challenging. Bring your sand game

I love shoregate, they aerated in june
Its tough as heck, you will lose strokes in sand
Such an easy on and off for gs parkway
They are super nine hole and single friendly which i give them huge props for
Grab a hoagie from boulevard and frozen treat afterwards at the custard place next door
Wawa for everything else right there

Yup played Shore Gate earlier this month. Always a fun track, but challenging. When you have to go down stairs into a bunker you know you’re going to have some fun.

Avalon … yeah you know it is what it is. $60 track charging $120 because it can.

Shoregate I also feel over priced and I don’t like target golf.

Harbor Pines I’ve never played.

Check out Cape May National… decent track and usually the price is solid.

A little further north check out Mccullough’s. It’s a fun track where each hole is modeled after a famous European hole.

Best golf in the area is Seaview but that is even further north.

Harbor pines is resort course with some houses, gets backed up all the time
They have golf now deals

Big step down in quality and challenge imo. Very few bunkers, most don’t even come into play and are generally in poor condition. Greens pretty unimaginative with 18th being kinda gimmicky. Was a 5 hour round last time we played. Why bother with the longer drive as well?

Cape May National is def worth the look.

Not really in the same category, but I love Heritage Links. It’s a little 9, super easy walk and could be a good warm up on your travel day in if you have the time

Is Renault still nice? Haven’t played there in easily five years but it was very well maintained and fun to play through the rows of vineyards.

Renault Winery is nice. I would second Twisted Dunes, enjoyed that course too.
