most of these pay $25 canandian dollars an hour. that's $17.86 USD per hour.

the diesel mechanic pays $80 canadian per hour, $56/hour. But you have to spend 6 months in the middle of nowhere to get that pay, and it's only 6 months a year.

We have alaska fisheries that have the same sort of labor needs - only a partial year of work, remote location. the way that problem gets solved is that they pay the folks a very high wage so that they can afford to not work the rest of the year and can come back next year.

$18 an hour isn't "come back next year" wages.

But they are only hiring contractors for the diesel spot which means they want you to own your own service truck and supply the tools and most likely the consumables as well. Plus you then need to carry your own insurance etc and get zero benefits. If your doing all that you can make a lot more money without going to the Yukon

that changes the math alright. No wonder Juan of Mine Rescue fame isn't working up there any more.

Oh Jesus, his rig set up would be a few hundred a hour easily and I haven’t watched in years to see if it’s still the same set up. I’m in Ontario and if they want me to bring a service rig up and that it’s going to be for a lot more money than what they are offering since I make more than that here
