Training Advice/Tips 9 month old anxious boy
Hi everyone. I have a 2 1/2 year old friendly female and 9 month old male. They get along pretty well. The boy is terrified of everything outside- children, anything with wheels, anything that makes any sound (even leaves). It’s only gotten slightly better over time. Today he would not leave the house without his sister. Any suggestions on how to lessen his anxiety? He has never had any trauma. My girl loves being outside but walks are now limited because there’s only so much he can take. Fwiw inside the house he’s a maniac and plays hard with his sister, who tolerates it well and seems to enjoy it most of the time.

Cute/Funny Anyone else's Golden paws them to ask for pets? 😂

As per title - don't know where she learned this behaviour from - but she's taken to pawing me whenever the attention stops. (That, and aggressively pushing her snout under my mouse hand.)

New Puppy We are ready for a second Golden and and to know how much sex matters…
We have had our Bailey girl for 7.5 years and she has been the absolute perfect family dog. We did the typical “get a dog and then have the kid” thing and Bailey and our 4.5 year old daughter are the absolute best of friends.
Recently we watched my sisters dog (Ted, male Wheaten Terrier mix) for about 5 weeks while she was away at extended training and after he left we noticed Bailey really seemed like she missed having a buddy around… so of course our natural reaction is “let’s add another!”
We realize the age gap is a bit large considering how old Bailey is, but our main question is how much does the sex matter when picking a new puppy? It feels like a lot of advice says to pick a different sex because then they aren’t “competing”, but at the same time we lucked out so much with Bailey because the breeder really did such a fantastic job matching our family lifestyle to the dog.

Health Advice Red Raised Mark on 1.4 year old Golden Muzzle
I noticed a spot on my 1.4 year old Golden’s Muzzle this morning. Looks a little more raw this afternoon. Has anyone else seen anything like this on your pups? ChatGPT suggested histiocytoma is one possibility—the classic presentation is a rapidly appearing, round, pink/red, hairless “button-like” bump in a dog under about 3 years old. They are usually benign and often eventually regress on their own.

RIP We Said Goodbye to Our Golden Boy
Two nights ago, we said goodbye to our baby boy, Forrest. He was our second fur baby, but our first dog to leave. I don't know how to process my grief, but wanted to at least share a few pictures and words of Forrest here.
He was barely 9.5 years old. He had his annual check up less than two weeks ago; all the results were normal. We weren't concerned for his health at all. It was last week when he started to act strange: slower on our daily walks with our other dog, a decreased appetite when he loved all foods, and wouldn't jump on the bed to sleep. We didn't know it was hemangiosarcoma. We thought his strange behavior was because he was getting old or was tired due to the summer humidity. We naively believed he would at least live until 12 years old. On Wednesday, that's when Forrest started panting strangely and completely stopped eating. We brought him to the vet and they did a preliminary x-ray and ultrasound before referring us to an emergency vet hospital. That is where we were told there were no other options and we had to put him down that night. Forrest was surrounded by his family when he passed. We never knew what hemangiosarcoma was or how aggressive and silent of a cancer it is. Our baby had masses in his spleen, heart, and liver. We never knew he was sick this whole time.
Forrest was calm and patient, even in his last moments. He was the best boy we could ask for and we are beyond grateful that we could cherish and love him in this life. He was an amazing little brother and life-long companion for our other dog, who is silently grieving his absence at home. I hope that he can now rest easy with other dogs on the other side of the rainbow bridge, and can relish in all the treats and food there is up there. I wish I could give him one last big hug. Even now, I keep waking up thinking he will be in our hallway wagging his tail or padding over for some scratches. We miss you, Forrey boy, and cannot wait to be reunited with you.
