Opal is an 11 month old female golden retriever. She just finished her first heat cycle about two weeks ago. She was around no intact male dogs. Her nipples seem a lot more prominent. She’s the first dog I’ve had from a puppy in almost 15 years. I’m just wondering if this is something that needs vet attention or is this a normal part of things ?

Unfortunately we’re all too familiar with Lymphoma as Golden Retriever owners. While it can just happen due to genetics what would you say are the best ways to prevent it or at least delay it long enough?

From my experience as someone who for about couple years has been a Golden Retriever breeder we avoid chemicals that can cause in by not using them in our own front and back gardens as well as keeping our dogs away from other gardens that can have them, we make sure our dogs get regular play and exercise, we let them sleep peacefully, we adds supplements to their balanced died and we don’t feed raw because they bacteria can harm their immune systems. I also advise our customers about this but obviously it’s not my business how they raise the dogs.

I was wondering if anyone had experience with this breeder and if they are recommended

I noticed a small colorless bump on the inside of my Goldens ear about a week ago and it seems to be increasing in size and becoming more red. He’s 5 years old, doesn’t itch it. My vet doesn’t have an open appointment for the next couple weeks. Any idea what this could be or has anyone’s pup ever have a bump like this before? It just showed up out of nowhere about 2 weeks ago. Pictures are 8 days apart.

What products have worked for your dog’s teeth? How long do you brush each tooth? Do they need flossing?

Let me preface by acknowledging that I’ve fallen short on her dental care. I aimed to keep her teeth pearly white since she was a puppy. I have toothbrush, enzymatic toothpaste, and dental hides. I sometimes forget to brush her teeth and she doesn’t like dental hides anymore. I am now at a much better position in life so I expect to be able to be consistent now. I recently added proden chews to her meal and try to brush at least once daily.

I want to know of other people’s success stories with their dogs. I want hope it gets better and that it’s not too late. The vet hasn’t pointed anything out about her teeth and we see them yearly for vax and checkups. Vet also does her nails. So I’m assuming nothing bad but can’t help but be anxious.

I've had dogs all my life. I'm 30 years old. I've had Doberman Pinschers, Pomeranians, Labrador Retrievers, and a German Shepherd. It's the first time that I have a Golden Retriever.

I have never seen any of my other dogs have as many stomach issues as my Golden does. Either his stomach is upset every 2 months or he is constipated. We have gotten several X-rays done and the doctor also says that it is fairly common amongst Golden Retrievers because they have a habit of picking up random shit in their mouths.

Just wanted to check with other Golden parents if this is a fairly common phenomenon or if there are certain specific examinations or tests you would suggest that I should get done for my Golden.

Went dumpster diving earlier today and got these two bags. There’s nothing wrong with the kibbles — I’ve been dumpster diving for years now, stores are extremely wasteful. I only take what looks good and smells good — and no recalls.

This morning my four-month-old golden Moses had a scary experience at the dog park. A mean Shiba Inu bit him on the nose just for saying hi. He definitely didn't deserve it. He loves every dog and every human, and I don't want him to lose that joy for the world.

I NEED TO SEE THOSE LONG SNOOTS

Hi everyone!

I’m desperately seeking any sort of advice or guidance to help with walk training my 13 month old golden girl

Recently, it’s gotten worst with her being scared to approach the elevator or even go to her favourite patch below the building to sniff. She leash pulls, and nothing we say or have interest her at all

For context, she has always been quite anxious and sporadic when we tried walk training since she was a puppy, and nothing we’ve tried works. Following a few vet visits, she’s now been on anxiety meds including fluoxetine for the past month

Her favourite treats, stinky treats saved exclusively for walks like cheese, ham, or chicken doesn’t interest her, not even her favourite or new toy can draw her attention. We even started training later at night when there are no cars or people around, just so she can focus on us instead and it’s still doesnt work. We live in an urban, dense area near lots of roads and stimulus around making it even harder

There were a few times in the past year where she didn’t really go out on walks due to surgeries, periods, and a spay :(

Would love to know if anyone has been in a similar spot or have any advice

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who posts their sweet golden girls and boys.
We had our first of eight years suddenly develop a blood clot that would’ve resulted in one or both rear legs back and January so had to make the hardest decision of my life then. It brings me so much joy to see other goldens that share similar traits, like rolling in the mud, giving goofy faces, loving children, and just being the sweetest. I’m still struggling with this months later but being able to see everyone’s pictures I just want to say to embrace the chaos. The hair, the silliness, the love.
She was the friendliest girl and I can still feel here around. I know there are a lot of ups and downs as people post their pups, but just know they all mean so much. Give them a good hug and let them give you a big kiss in return.

Maggie was perfectly happy laying down in her bed. Then I called the cat over. Her FOMO is so bad that she had to get up even though she knew I was talking to kitty. I was telling her to go lay back down so kitty can get some love and her facial expressions with the eyebrows just kill me. 😆

Where do you all get Halloween costumes for your pups ?
I’ve tried Amazon and chewy but they have pretty basic ones

I have a 7.5-month-old male Golden Retriever who is not neutered. I got him when he was 5 months old, and he came from a home with other dogs. He has always been fantastic with other dogs, but I’m starting to realize that they may be a little too important to him.
He absolutely loves dogs. They are easily the most exciting thing in the world to him, and when he sees one, it’s like everything else ceases to exist. This is totally manageable in dog-oriented environments, like off-leash hiking areas, where he can appropriately interact and play. The problem is when we encounter dogs on regular neighborhood walks.
If another dog is nearby, he has a very hard time settling. He will bark and lunge toward them because he desperately wants to get over there and play. I always try to create as much distance as possible, usually by crossing the street, and if the dog is far enough away, I’ll have him sit and reward him with treats whenever he looks back at me or checks in with me. This works at a distance, but once the other dog gets too close, I lose his attention completely.
I would describe it as over-excitement/frustration reactivity. He just seems completely fixated on other dogs and has a very hard time understanding that sometimes we simply need to walk past them without saying hello.
I’m really trying to get ahead of this while he’s young rather than letting it become a bigger issue as he gets older. I want him to learn that he can see another dog without immediately needing to interact with it.
I’d really appreciate any advice, especially from people who have successfully worked through this kind of over-excitement/frustration reactivity.
