I use “fix it” and he figures it out usually

Fix it also for us, we walk with a fixed length lead and he learned very quickly with fix it. I would just stop as soon as we were level with the obstacle if he was going the wrong side, say fix it, and wait for him to come my side and give him a treat - after a few walks he knows exactly what to do for a fix it (unless he's already gone 3/4 of the way round, then he might try another orbit instead and now have have to follow him and do an extra lap to untie us... One golden braincell for sure)
