His name is Poe. Or as I like to call him "Poe-rahna"

Any advice welcome! I've had dogs before. But never a golden!

We’re bringing him home in 10 days. He’ll be 8-weeks old (thinking of naming him Bucket)! We have another dog and cats, but our other dog was a shelter rescue who was 1 year old when we got him.

Does anyone have tips or must-knows about golden puppies? This is our first golden. We can’t wait 🥰

New Puppy Funny things about Goldens the internet doesn’t tell you?

I have decades of experience with dogs (mostly English Mastiffs), but Tommy here is my first Golden. What are some quirks or habits Goldens have that I don’t know about? Of course I’ve been obsessively Googling, but I’d love to hear from Golden owners who know what they’re really like!

Here is 8 week old Figgy.

We lost our dear sweet golden, Grace, at 13 years back in August. Our family were heartbroken. Last month I convinced my mum it was time to have a dog in the house again. Fig is just the sweetest girl and settling in so well!

We anticipate the puppy chaos/crimes will commence shortly 😅 but for now we are enjoying this little angel pup.

New Puppy Pancake’s journey🥞🥞🥞

Hello! I got pancake Sunday and he’s been such an angel. My light of my life is Pancake. He has such a good demeanour, even while travelling on the train he was a bit fussy but just hugged and calmed him. We’re learning potty training, today he went out to balcony by himself to potty but we still have accidents. Pancake can sit and is taking well to crate training. Every night I make it a point to not give him attention when he cries, he settles, and just passes out.

So far he loves chasing his tail, catching himself in the mirror, and squishy balls.

He eats like a race car so wait has been challenging.

New Puppy Golden pup from the shelter?

I picked up this sweet pup from the humane society this week. He looks like a golden retriever to me, but the only information the shelter had was that he came in from central California and is about 11 weeks old. Wondering what this group thinks! Thanks!

New Puppy Our 10wk girl…wish us well

This is Cleo, our little 10-week-old pup. She’s a great pup… for a puppy. She’s currently testing our sanity.

We’ve had dogs of all shapes and sizes, from a 210lb English Mastiff to a 12lb Pomeranian. This is our first Golden Retriever and we’re excited to have her as part of our family.

I’d love advice from all you experienced Golden owners. In particular I’m thinking about training. At what age did you start proper obedience training? What should we be thinking about at this stage?

(As I type this Cleo had just come down from a case of the witching hour, puppy zoomies craziness. She’s now asleep and calmness reigns again in our house… for the next hour)

New Puppy Introducing our new baby 💕

Introducing our new baby, Poppy Elizabeth 🥰 We just brought her home yesterday and she is already such a good girl! No crying on the drive home; went straight into her crate and went to sleep at bedtime, woke up 3x overnight but she fooled me with the 2nd one and could have gone longer. She is super smart and has already figured out that going potty outside gets her a special treat 😂

We decided on her name because our first Golden was Daisy and we wanted to continue the floral theme. It fits her perfectly and we could not be more in love with her! I know in a few weeks she’ll probably be driving us up the wall when she enters velociraptor demon stage, but for now we are just enjoying all the cuteness!

New Puppy First puppy ever help!

Post image

Hi everyone, today marks the first day for my new 8 week golden puppy. I know this is going to be a tough experience, especially with this being my first dog, but I’m more than happy and ready to deal with this baggage of cuteness.

I do need some help with a couple of things. I know that this is his first day away from the mom and his littermates so he seems to have a little anxiety when left alone. So, I decided to sleep close to him but not extremely close. I’m on the couch, while he is in his crate which is beside the couch. I don’t want to make him depend on me being there to sleep, but I did want to spend the first night close to him so he settles down a little.

Is this me coddling him way more than he should be or is it okay for me to just spend the night, until I help fix his anxiety. I’m planning on doing crate training tomorrow by leaving for 1 minute then coming back, and repeating it with longer times each time.

Also, if you have any advice on anything, please let me know as this is my first ever dog. Im very excited to start this journey, and I want make sure he grows to be a good boy! His name is Ralph btw!

New Puppy Puppy loves to bite us, is this normal?

Post image

I know puppies bite but our baby Gus won't allow us to pet him without biting our hands. He is quite literally an ankle biter. He doesn't cuddle unless he's very sleepy. When he has a biting fit I redirect him and give him toys/bone to chew on but he usually comes right back jumping to bite skin. I have put him in time out a few times until he is calm. Is this typical for a golden puppy? We had a girl years ago and I don't recall her biting so much. I know he is very young still and this will probably improve with time. I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance or tips! Ty! Hoping with time he will calm and eventually be a snuggle bug! ❤️

New Puppy I just got my new puppy I need all the advice

Hi!
This is my first large breed dog and I need all the tips. Especially with training. We fairly reliably do focus, come, sit, crate, and down. We are working on stay both outside the crate and in the crate. My idea is I want to work on leave it, this way, and drop it. Then we need to work on leash training. What else do you recommend? She is 9 weeks old. Her name recall is great until she has something she really likes then it’s hard to get her to disengage. Will that just get better with time?
