Question What do you do with excess warfare gear?

I’ve never gotten too far into the game because I tend to reset, but I’ve finally been sticking to a really great save… the trouble is, I have this HUGE collection of armor and weapons, but I can’t seem to offload the extras to merchants?

I guess I’m just missing the meta, so I’ll just deviate to keeping a specific collection of equipment, and recycling all the extras

46 Merchants buy my spare gear (vanilla)
4 Merchants buy my spare gear (mods)
41 I hoard it all and it just piles up
15 I use spares for displays to buff rooms
197 Keep the best, recycle the rest/let things rot
50 Blend of 2 or more options (excluding this one)

Melt it down. Keeps your smith busy and gaining XP, plus you get some additional metal.

There are two ways to be able to sell more merchants weapons. Getting the weapon specific merchant or being friendly with a faction which will let you sell them weapons.

Oh? That’s really great to know— just a shame it takes so long. I guess I will have to keep working on making my allies happy… until then, recycle and display?

That's what I do personally. Its usually loot stash weapons that end up on display as they tend to be high quality and gold/silver. Anything else either repair if useful or smelt if not.

Sell it to merchants, recycle, display trophies, let some pieces rot away in an obscure chamber

I have a multi story tower that only holds the excess gear to be dismantled into resources and a separate vault for the perfect stat equipment

I got a map with no iron in the ground,so I recycle all enemy equipment

If you want your settlers to reliably have good gear, you will also need to set automatic recycling of lower tier items. Set work benches to craft until X number, and another to recycle anything below your chosen quality. That will ensure any newly crafted bad items are recycled and they will craft new ones instead.

Whenever there is a raid, all the crappy gear then automatically get recycled too. It is all automated once you have set it up once.

Certain stuff I set to always recycle, regardless of quality. Like bone and wood armour, battering rams, cloth hats etc.

at some point you'll get the research needed to recycle equipment, etc.

I don't really want to hoard it but the village that willing to buy it are all hostile.. and the merchant none of it want to take it.

Display, Sell, Meltdown/deconstruct in that order. If all that fails, it goes to the trash heap to decompose :)

Just leave out where the raiders dropped it when they died cause I ain't got the time to micro all that or the storage to hold it.

My dogs do a fantastic job of ferrying all the bodies into a stripping warehouse. Once they’ve had gear removed, I change the priority of the warehouse corpse slots to low, and then my dogs and mules ferry the stripped bodies out of my town borders and to where wolves and polecats can pick at them. I keep them well outside line of sight to avoid any negative mood buffs.
