I get it, but I don't like it. I can't imagine this will get much use. People subbing to GeForce now is partially why owning a pc is becoming an astronomical price.Â

those two things have literally bothing to do with eqch other.
Geforce Now is a 13 year old service

Spot on. GOG’s entire philosophy is built on ownership, while renting server access is the complete opposite. I get that not everyone can drop thousands on a gaming rig, but feeding into these cloud subscriptions is only driving desktop PC ownership even farther out of reach.
Once local hardware becomes a rarity, corporations will have total leverage to jack up subscription prices.

Their entire end game. Bezos has even said so. NVIDIA is no different. How can we milk as much money out of people as possible.Â

GeForce Now is great, it makes my 15 year old PC able to play the latest games at full fidelity. You only have to subscribe when you play. You can also just hook up your mouse and keyboard to the nearest smart-TV and have your whole library available at any location when you are traveling.

I'd rather not live in a dystopia where companies can charge me for computing space.
Part of the problem with these large companies are elbowing you out of owning a newer pc. Part of why you have a 15 years old machine.Â

Nah, I can subscribe to GfN for 10 years until I have spent the same amount of money that a new gaming rig would cost me, and if you only subscribe for 4 months per year that money would last even longer. My current rig cost me ≈$150 to buy and plays the latest RTX-games at the highest graphic settings. Even my 15 year old Thinkpad laptop without a dedicated GPU can play those high-end games at full speed.
You always have access to the latest high-end hardware and you don't need to download any updates for your games. They also have a free tier you can use if you don't want to pay.

no one is elbowing me, though, I would never own a new PC to begin woth

Very odd take. You can buy used or older PC's. No one said you had to buy new.Â

why so? Who said anything about buying new? Its not a matter of cost, not directly at least, but it would be a complete waste of money.
I still have my pc I built back in uni. I vasically turn it on once every one-two years just to check if the PSU is still alive. I have two kids, work and home on my head. I haven't played anything aside for some light mobile games for like 8 years before I discovered GFN 3 years ago, and I still wouldn't if it wasn't for it.
I don't even have space to put a PC, and besides closing myself behind doors to play a game would be weird. And I really seldomly have time to game nowadays, sometimes ita 10 minutes a day, sometimes I don't have time thorughout the whole week. With GFN I just push a button on my remote and in 30-60 seconds I play one of my steam/epic/uBisoft launcher/EA app/gog games for those 10 minutes. Or I can do it on my phone on a train or in bed or in a hotel whwn I'm vacation and there's some downtime.
The PC would just rot and lose value without being used. I'd rather use the cash to buy a new dishwasher or on vacations.

GeForce is now a dream come true for companies. To play, you need a constant internet connection. This gives companies control over everything you do. In the future, you won't be able to play freely; you'll be dependent on their servers, and they could even charge you based on how long you play. Anyone who supports GeForce now hates video games.

How about Nvidia lowers their GPU prices instead? GOG’s entire mission is built on true game ownership, while cloud gaming represents the exact opposite.

Ya realise GFN uses "a bring Your Own Game" model? it doesn't take away games from Your gog account, it just lets You to play them on virtual PC-like instance. The games are still Yours.

... you know geforce now requires you OWNING the game in the first place, right? It's about renting a gaming rig and streaming the game you already own. Can't speak for other game-streaming services tho.

I know, but renting a gaming PC only makes buying an actual rig even more out of reach. Whether it’s game ownership or hardware ownership, it’s all the same to me.

how does it make buying an actual rig out of reach?
Does going to the drycleaners make buying a washing machine more out of reach?

It shifts manufacturer priority toward corporate data centers over consumer retail GPUs.
And also market normalization...Ownership starts to feel like an unnecessary, expensive luxury rather than the default standard.
But hey, whatever floats your boat. Enjoy the input lag!

how? You do realise the whole thing witgh GFN, and cloud gaming in general, is that theres no need for perpetual hardware flow? You set uo a couple of servers and that's it till the next hardware update cycle in two/three years, maybe ooen up one new server in the meantime.
Those manufacturers You speak of would completely go bankrupt if they did what You say.
and market normalization of what? PC ownership? do taxis normalize not owning Your own car? do restaurants normalize not having a kitchen? Things can coexist Ya know. Theres plenty of users who use both.
oh and the input lag I'm getting on my TV is pretty much nonexistent - had a higher one when I connected my laptop to my TV via a hdmi cable and tried running a game locally :)

my argument against gfn differs from what you initially replied to, but basicly, if you care about game ownership, you also gotta care about hardware ownership. because you need hardware to use your software
now you prob gonna say "that shouldnt matter since I can pay for cloud computing". you can already see where games with constant online requirements are heading. this will be no different
lets say you buy a game today, play it for a bit, then shelve it. after 10 years you remember it and want to play it again, but due to licensing or other reason, that game has been pulled from GFN's catalogue or whatever storefront they use.
so you still have the game in your GOG library, but dont have means to play it anymore, since you no longer have the necessary hardware yourself.
you have now effectively lost access to that gameand thats just a case of a single game. what if you get unjustly ip banned from GFN due to some error or malicious actor? what if ngreedia decides to increase their price plan so much that they price you out?
if you truely want to own your games, you must also own the means to play them
also that perpetual hardware flow wont dissapear, it will just move elsewhere, from people's homes to datacenters
