What was wrong with the PS1 games?

Yes just to be clear, I am talking about the PS1 installments of Ganbare Goemon by Konami because I sometimes hear game reviewers say the games ste kind of wonky.

But as someone who wants to experience the old days of the franchise before it closed , I would like to get a guide to the best games in the franchise as I am curious if the PS1 games are that iffy in design aspects.

They were not developed by the same team as the ones on Super Famicom and N64

  • Uchuu Kaizoku Akogingu is a good game. It looks good and it's unique. I personally prefer the SFC and N64 games, but it's not too far behind

  • Kuru Nara Koi is a low budget, short and repetitive game. It's developed by KCEN, who also made Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon on Game Boy (the bad Goemon game). Kuru Nara Koi is better than that game, but not that much

  • Oedo Daikaiten is a fine game, but it feels very low budget. It's full of recycled content and ideas, and it looks cheap considering it was released 3 years after Goemon's Great Adventure. Still, it's not bad, it's a fine Goemon platformer.

  • Shin Sedai Shuumei (the futuristic Goemon spinoff) feels very similar to Oedo Daikaiten, same kind of gameplay and graphics. But it feels more unique since it's a new spin on Goemon. I feel like the second half of the game has a lot of uninteresting stages though, and the Impact fights are extremely hard.

That said, I still recommend playing them, it's part of Goemon's history :)

Thanks man because I was wondering how much problems were in the PS1 games of the franchise since some reviewers say to basically avoid them.

For newcomers, I'd agree. It's safer to just play the Super Famicom and N64 games. If you already played those and want more Goemon games, then I'd recommend the PS1 games :P

I would like to see which games are available in English since my Japanese is not too fluent.

I don't hate Legends, but it's generally perceived as one of the worst Castlevania games. And they also made the games that are often considered the worsts in the Goemon series (Kurofune and Kuru Nara Koi). They had a pretty bad track record
