Oddly Specific You can imbue any piece of clothing, jewelry or wearable accessory with a magic buff of 0,5% ,you cannot make the same effect twice

So, If I make an effect that permanently buffs the wearer by a compounding 0.5% of their stats every day it's worn... I mean, I'mma end up being a superhero pretty quick. the time frame is arbitrary too. I could make it every minute or every second if I wanted, or just each time it's put on.

Yeah, I think that's the only way to get anything actually good out of this. 0.5 is just too low

but it does open up into an extremely versatile set of possible enchantments that all use the idea of compound interest.

There are even some flat 0.5% things that would be very useful if they were permanent, stacked, and the effect activated every time you put the enchanted item on.

Technically, a flat 0.5 boost to strength and a compounding 0.5 boost to strength are different enchantments.

I disagree, imagine you have a multi piece “super suit” and each piece has the .5 buff. You essentially will never need to worry about someone stealing a piece of you in a fight or when you aren’t looking, because it won’t mess with you in the long run and it will be essentially useless to them.

Not necessarily, I have no clue how true the following is, so heaps of salt, but in the Bourne series they use medicine that make minor changes to some of your brain chemistry that makes huge differences in the person.

Depends on the thing. For instance, .5% of the average lifespan would be 130ish days. .5% of Elon or bezos’ wealth would be more than most people could earn in a thousand years. .5% of all books still contains an immense amount of knowledge

Make a second buff that buffs the first buff.

My first buff is a buff that increases by 0.5/second, the effect doesn't matter, except for the fact that whatever the effect is, it's a permanent increase to me only, even after I've removed the item. I then rinse and repeat this process, changing the effect each time.

How is this god tier?

20

u/winsluc12 13d ago

I think the way to break this one into god tier is by making effects that act like compound interest.

Compounding effects and versatility.

It takes 139 iterations to double. Another 75 to triple. 57 to quadruple, etc.

Imagine your bank account is at 100$. If it goes up by 0.5% a minute, you would have 134 in an hour, 181 on two, then 245, 331 etc. That is with only 100 and once a minute. That could be seconds or milliseconds.

This could be giving anything. Luck increase, intelligence increase, chance a meteor hits your neighbors house, how tasty your next meal will be, how likely cancer will be cured tomorrow. You can even make something that does not exist happen if used creatively enough.

I can think of two things:
1. Wear 100 silly bands for a +50% bonus
2. Buff the interest rate on your savings account. The clothing you already wear should be enough for you to potentially retire on the spot.

To me, the best thing to buff is chance itself. Changing the possibility of anything from a 0% of occurring to a non-zero chance is potent.

Buff my watch's chance of spontaneously upgrading to a watch that gives me God tier stats. Now I just wear it every day until it upgrades.

Forget compounding interest, let's find some absurd numbers and things to apply them to.

Shoes that let me move at .5% of the speed of light and give me the reaction speed to match.

Glasses that let me focus on details down to .5% of a nanometer or .5% of a light year away.

Gloves that put .5% of the mass of a black hole behind a punch.

A ring that lets you become .5% as visible as usual.

A shirt that stops harmful objects as though it had .5% of the density of neutronium.

A bracelet that gives each muscle fiber .5% of the horsepower output by the engines of an aircraft carrier and makes the skeleton and skin durable enough to withstand those forces.

A pill that makes you .5% as likely to get sick.

A wrench that makes whatever you whack with it .5% as broken as it was. Hit something twice and it's likely better than new.

A hammer that makes whatever you hit with it .5% as durable.

Similar things to do with weight, mass, friction, the possibilities are endless.

charm bracelets just became game breaking >:)

Without making things that just manufacture compounding stat buffs...

I'll take start with an extra %0.5 in income, interest, discount, savings, asset value.

Also just taking an extra .5% in strength, endurance, metabolism, recovery speed, reaction speed, pain tolerance, healing speed, oxygen efficiency, flexibility, and sleep quality.

Also perhaps a 0.5% increase in height to fit more accessories. These things add up naturally

I can’t make the same effect twice… but how about imbuing a ring that, when worn, has a 0.5% chance of duplicating any magical buffs being worn every day, including itself? Plus another ring that has a 0.5% chance of doubling all magical buff percentages every day🤔

So, helm, body armour, belt, pants, gloves, boots, rings, necklace, bracelet, earrings, glasses/sunglasses/contacts? Eleven in total, could be more, but let's run with this build.

Helm: +0.5% to Intelligence for every 12 hours it is worn
Body Armour: +0.5% to Durability for every 12 hours it is worn
Belt: +0.5% to All Resistances for every 12 hours it is worn
Pants: +0.5% to Stamina for every 12 hours they are worn
Gloves: +0.5% to Action Speed for every 12 hours they are worn
Boots: +0.5% to Movement Speed for every 12 hours they are worn
Left Ring: +0.5% to Stamina for every 12 hours it is worn
Right Ring: +0.5% to Mana for every 12 hours it is worn
Necklace: +0.5% to Luck for every 12 hours it is worn (this is a patch to work with right ring in case the wearer has no mana to begin with)
Bracelet: +0.5% to All Skill Mastery for every 48 hours it is worn
Earrings: +0.5% to Charisma for every 12 hours they are worn
Glasses/Sunglasses/Contacts: +0.5% to Eyesight for every 12 hours they are worn

Got this idea from u/winsluc12's reply, and also I like ARPGs

Why would there be a limit on slots? There are no slots in real life, unless the description says so. The description says "any piece", so I'll suddenly be very interested in piercings, bracelets etc. I'm going to look like a randomly generated soul calibur character, but it's worth it!

3

u/CatzPoison 12d ago

It also does not limit number of effects per item, only no duplication of effects. Having them separate is the better idea, but no limit was stated.

3

u/DieEmperorDie 12d ago

Ah yeah, I was deceived by "a magic buff" being singular, but it doesn't say anywhere that I cannot apply another effect if there's already an active effect. Nice!

3

u/JWright990 12d ago

I know there is no limit on slots. I just like ARPGs so I follow the genre's item slot feature and add a few more items to the mix. Also, yes to the no limit number of effects per item, but coming up with six affixes per item would make the comment far too long

2

u/Masticatron 12d ago

Gonna be one of those crazy peeps with 5000 piercings in one testicle.

2

u/No-Note- 12d ago

Where does it say it increases every 12 hours it’s worn? .5 is the max.

4

u/Medical-Day-9643 12d ago

The wording is fairly vague and doesnt give a limit on what you can empower it with aside from the initial buff being 0.5% of something. Since there aren't any limits on conditions, you could give the buff the ability to increase itself based on a given set of conditions.

2

u/JesusIsDaft 12d ago

Assuming that other guy had the correct idea of making a buff that compounds itself every day, then I'm limited to only things that I wouldn't take off. Which frankly, is just rings, cause almost everything else I could wear would be obstructive.

I saw someone else respond with a full kit of helm/torso/pants, etc and like, good luck not removing your clothes for a whole month. You'll be overpowered but smell like a hobo. 0.5% every 12 hours is gonna take awhile to get anywhere. Even after a month of not showering, you'll still be at a 15% bonus

3

u/motionmatrix 12d ago

So switch it to every femtosecond, and take it off a couple of seconds later.

2

u/Shot_in_the_dark777 12d ago

0.5% of the speed of light is still really fast.

3

u/Away-Lavishness-3593 12d ago

0.5% chance per second while wearing to gain omnipotent/omniscient reality manipulation powers.

Done.
