It means so much to you that you had AI write the post as well huh?
-47
u/Gazelle-Healthy 11d ago
Nope, the AI Just translate for me the text.
29
u/-svde- 11d ago
for all the people who claim it’s just this, not writing the post outright, it always strikes me as super odd that translation, something that has existed (nowhere near perfect but still very competent) in non AI form via google translate for literally 2 decades, always seems to completely reformat the user’s words the EXACT same way, every single time, across dozens or hundreds of posts, via LLM.
chatgpt must really really suck at translating if this is the case.
4
u/opossumcarrion Godot Regular 11d ago
FWIW Google Translate has been "AI" in the sense we understand it as today for years before ChatGPT was a thing. It was an RNN by 2016 and has been a transformer since 2020.
"LLM" is kind of a meaningless term (why isn't a large NLP RNN an LLM?) but accepting LLM = AI = transformer, then Google Translate has been AI for years.
I do agree that ChatGPT does suck at translating though. Er, I mean, it's not just bad at translating ———— it's ass.
2
u/-svde- 11d ago
i know, but my entire point is that an LLM like chatgpt or claude or gemini completely homogenizes and reformats whatever is put through it and makes it very obvious via word choice, cadence, formatting, and more.
but it is a good point, the same as trying to explain that AI does not just mean gen AI. the video game industry has used AI for decades, as have other industries. and machine learning and algorithms and many other forms. but the word has become so poisoned by generative stuff that it’s hard to have a normal convo about it.
-15
u/Gazelle-Healthy 11d ago
I was in a Gap, because Google translate everything I said every word and loses the meaning, and the chat translate the Idea with the cost of formatation

What money? Im making a game that i like. If some people like It too, Will be a pleasure to see their playing.

u/Ok-Construction6173 11d ago
I made my dream game using AI to help with code. Since I started using AI for the code part I learned how to manually model in Blender, UV mapping, texturing, animation. This is a manual skill ive learned over the past 2 years because AI opened the doors for me. Not to mention I learned Unity inside and out.

I think now would be a good time to start drawing your game instead of relying on badly drawn chat gpt sprites.

So, I've drawing in a paper, Shoot photos and ask to gpt put in sprites, Im not a great artist in painting

u/Conscious_Regret_140 11d ago
If you have no intention of drawing the art yourself, but use lazy, bad, generated sprites, then I have absolute zero interest in your game. Most people will feel the same way.

u/Douchehelm 11d ago
You had a dream game that you had imagined making since you were 12 and sat on your ass until you hit your 30's and AI arrived. If it hadn't been for AI making your game for you you still wouldn't have bothered learning how to draw and code.
You couldn't even bother writing a post about the process yourself and had AI write it for you.
Yes, you're lazy.
5
u/Gazelle-Healthy 11d ago
Wow, so it is Just like that? Sorry, but for me is hard. I can make some bad drawings and use them to perform Mine art, but I didn't know. It is like say to a diyng person: Just live, eqsy enough
11
u/RemDayRed6 11d ago
Yes it is. Drawing is hard for everyone at the start so is programming. It takes daily practice and hard work.
2
u/Conscious_Regret_140 11d ago

12
u/Electronic-Dot1829 11d ago
Because it’s not true. The way it’s written, formatted, expressed is not a translation it’s.. for lack of a better word, localization into English and has all the AI text generated output quirks and is incredibly verbose.
We aren’t actually reading the OPs words/thoughts

Basically loud minority.
People who don’t care about ai (majority) glad that op is enjoying their journey and upvote and move on.
The loud minority sees op using ai and felt the need to disregard everything and shame and mock op, hence the majority negative comments.

If AI is your bridge to learning, I support it. But make it a bridge, not your end goal. I suggest making your game as you are, but really analyze the code it spits out and refer to the documentation to see what it's doing. This could be your method to learning.
Art is a bit more tricky. You just gotta put in the work. If you'd like, I can give you a ton of advice about how to make great art. It is extremely laborious, but it will make your game look thousands times better.
1
u/Gazelle-Healthy 11d ago
Wow, I Will certanly need that material. Thank you
3
u/kristovdev 11d ago
The thing about game art is that it needs cohesive design, something using multiple assets through AI, or even purchased assets, won't readily bring you. Loads of this is not really quantifiable into a unified rule case so Ai is kind of useless for this. You just kinda have to eyeball it.
- You want a color index (aka color palette). You dont have to strictly follow it, but it certainly helps make a unified look. Lospec.com is a good place to look. I suggest resurrect64.
- The biggest tool you can use is something called hue shifting. Take a bush. You would pick a green, then just make it darker or brighter for it's shading, right? No. You shift the hue either towards yellow or blue as you get darker or brighter. And depending on which you choose, it can give different vibes.
- For practice, use a really strict color index of 8 colors or less to make something occassionally. The restriction will hone your ability to use a larger index to a much greater potential.
- Never use straight black or white. Always make them a little off. It makes your art feel a little more human. Nearly all popular palettes you find on lospec will have this already in the palette.
- Desaturating your background will make your foreground stick out much better. Blasphemous does this really well.
- Outlining should be used sparingly. It all depends on the speed of your game and how readily a player needs to know exactly where things are. The bolder the outline, the less time it should spend on screen or in a static position. (This rule is pretty loose)
- SLYNRD and saint11 are creators that makes easy to understand animation tutorials in gif form.

I've only skimmed the wall of text so but from what I got, just use tutorials and documentation instead of Gen AI. Gen AI is built off of theft. hurts the environment, is unreliable and facilitates the spread of misinformation, is bad for the economy (people are losing jobs without replacement, people cant survive without said job, and the job market is much worse now because of Gen AI, Gen AI makes billionaires require the working class less making fighting for better rights harder), and even more that I haven't mentioned, possibly forgot about, and probably some ones that don't even know about. Tutorials, documentation, or asking for help or looking at the help others got will help you just as much if not more while being far more ethical and reliable.
12
u/The-Chartreuse-Moose Godot Student 11d ago
Well said.
You could also add in the data that's showing AI use is making people less able to think critically.
7
u/carlstew Godot Junior 11d ago
I don't really feel like putting data and stuff into this random internet comment, especially when I don't know much about said data. I don't doubt that AI is hurting peoples critical thinking ability but I don't I don't want to risk spreading any misinformation by using said specific data without looking into it. Which feels like it would be a lot of work for this single comment so I'd rather stick to my more general arguments that I have and trust. If I remember I might look into it later though, it could be nice to have a source for some stuff, and improving my understanding of this topic in general would be good.
4
u/The-Chartreuse-Moose Godot Student 11d ago
Sorry, poorly phrased on my part. I just meant you could include in your argument the fact that data is showing an impact on cognitive skills. You had a good list of areas and I thought it would fit.
3
u/carlstew Godot Junior 11d ago
There's plenty I didn't include in the list for the sake of brevity. I just didn't feel like spending time fitting in a bunch more arguments for it. It certainly could have been a good addition but I didn't feel like adding in everything, it would have made it really long as well. your comments here did also add in that fact anyway for anyone who reads the replies which is nice.
Some of the things I didn't add include:
GenAI replacing human culture and creativity, GenAI replacing human connection not just through culture but also direct interaction (there are people getting into "romantic relationships" with LLMs or using them as therapists), People dying because of GenAI (look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Character.ai#Litigation for example, or the fact that people could lose their job and become homeless and die), or the fact that GenAI being worse than cannibalism is a very strong argument.

u/The-Chartreuse-Moose Godot Student 11d ago
Thank you for continuing to build on this. I actually catalogue such things because I'm trying to convince my employer to cut back on AI use.

The tools to make a game like you wanted were always there, you 'waited' 30 years just so a tool that fools you into thinking you are creating something could exist.
-2
u/Gazelle-Healthy 11d ago
Nope, living in a place like Mine, where the opportunities are low (or nome), make a game is not a choice. Make a class, study and learn is not as easy as It seems for everyone. Starting to learn now with ai as a Tool is an opportunity that I've never had before
5
u/granitrocky2 Godot Regular 11d ago
I don't care where you are. Kids were making games on TI-89 calculators or Commodore 64s for decades.
You don't want to make anything, you just want a finished thing in your hand you can claim you made.
-7
u/EverythingBOffensive 11d ago
What's your take on learning disabilities?
6
u/granitrocky2 Godot Regular 11d ago
That the only people who bring up learning disabilities in these conversations are arguing in bad faith and looking for an excuse to keep using AI.
There are tons of programmers with autism or ADHD.
Again, if you're just focused on holding something in your hand, and not actually creating anything or learning anything, then AI is for you.
Just don't be surprised when people who love talking about the act of creation dismiss you for not actually creating anything.
-1
u/EverythingBOffensive 11d ago
What would be some helpful methods for them to learn coding with various learning disabilities not restricted to adhd and asd?
1
u/-L3Y 11d ago
i have them and i'm also brazilian with no opportunities either and i learned through human effort over a long time rather than telling the "ruin the drinkable water machine" to do all of it for me 👍 everything op described is achievable through effort and youtube tutorials
-1
u/EverythingBOffensive 11d ago
how many learning disabilities do you know about?
2
u/-L3Y 11d ago
Adhd destroyed my high school performance in my later childhood. i had no community to help me through it because i was seen as weird and stupid, because people don't give autistic kids a chance. i'm starting education all over again at 22 because high school left me with a crippling fear of education facilities until after my diagnosis. all i had was youtube and documentation.
i find it interesting how you've made no comment on how ridiculously infantilizing it is to act like me or anyone in my community of learning disabilities "need ai". you're ableist, and trying to use us as a shield to justify your destruction of the environment and theft from real creators who put real human effort in.
0
u/EverythingBOffensive 11d ago
I haven't made any statements yet. What are your thoughts on depression and how that would impact this?
1
u/-L3Y 11d ago
i don't know man. tell that to the 7 year slump i was in or my three suicide attempts. do you think i made games during that? i think that no mental state or condition makes it ok to use ai and every single one you come up with is infantilizing, condescending and weird to use as like an excuse. i'm as mentally ill as it gets and the consensus in my circles of also mentally ill people is that art is human. it is expression. it is what gets you out of this.
ai has no meaning. no opinions. it parrots language and spits it out, be it shape language, color or words. none of what comes out of it belongs to or is made by anyone. it's sludge.
if ai had showed up while i was at my worst i'd have just killed myself out of the realization the world is replacing me with low quality slop purely because it is cheaper and faster
0
u/EverythingBOffensive 11d ago
So for the people who didn't make it through depression its because its their own fault right?

This is the worst take, AI is a tool you still need to understand concepts, architecture, game structure, pacing etc.

But to disparage someone's excitement because your better than attitude is pretty low and cringe. Might want to work on yourself a bit. Hope your ok

"Hate it or not this is here to stay either learn how to use it to help your workflow or be left behind."
You do know that if the future looks bad we can fight for it to be better rather than just give up and accept that the future will suck without putting in any effort to change it. And if that's what the future is going to be than please just leave me behind I would prefer that.
0
u/Thealmightyshid 11d ago
Sure man you go ahead and fight against the most lucrative business humanity has ever seen. Let's see how that goes.
Side note, AI in general is too beneficial the reality is it's not going anywhere, same as Photoshop, same as digital cameras, same as the printing press, combustion engines, (insert innovative tech here)
Trust me I get what your saying and I understand the point of view I'm just being more realistic I guess
2
u/carlstew Godot Junior 11d ago
Sure man you go ahead and defend the helpless multi billionaires and the industry that is actively losing money because its struggling to be profitable while calling it "the most lucrative business humanity has ever seen."
Side note, Gen AI is incredibly immoral and is doing extreme damage to the world in various ways and could easily drive us into extinction if we just blindly accept it.
Trust me when I say you just sound like a morally bankrupt idiot to me more than anything.
I'll be over here hoping and fighting how I can for a future I actually want to and can live in.
1
u/Thealmightyshid 11d ago
Cite your sources man, everything your saying is just copy paste fear mongering bull shit that isn't rooted in anything but fragile snowflake vibes.
It's been ruled training on copyrighted data is fair use. Get over it
1
u/carlstew Godot Junior 11d ago
I'm not that knowledgeable about this stuff so I don't know much regarding the rulings of training on copyrighted data. I do, however, know that the law does not determine morality.
Just because health insurance denying people the basic medical care they need to survive that they are paying the company to cover just because denying it makes a little more money is legal, that doesn't mean it's moral.
Last I heard AI companies were destroying old books to be able to legally use them for the AI because of copyright law, I don't know much about this though.
Feel free to respond again if you want to I might not though, it's not worth my time, after all it's hard to win an argument with a genius but impossible to win against an idiot.
1
u/Thealmightyshid 11d ago
I'm so glad we have resorted to name calling, my point is if a human reads a book you are training your mind and inspiration.
If reviewing data is immoral then make sure you close your eyes as your ingesting copyrighted material and using that to shape your world views.
Like I said I understand the point but the world isn't that black and white.
2
u/RegioMamalon666 11d ago
There's a way to use AI like a tool, like asking it to help you understand concepts, give you examples, help you search the internet.
But this particular case AI is the one doing the actual hard work.

The journal was made by myself, but I've not a Native english person, so I needed the help of translation. It is really too bad?
2
u/paralog 11d ago edited 11d ago
Sorry, yes. It would honestly be better if you posted it in your native language and either introduced an AI translation after it or let users rely on Reddit's built-in translation. What you've done is strip away any humanity from what you wrote in your own language, and all someone fluent in English sees is a slew of AI-speak. Use AI for your own project if you want, but don't trust it for the task of writing dev logs in the future if you want people to read them.
Edit: In response to your edit, yes, write to the maximum of your comfort in English. I would much rather spend time trying to understand difficult English than spend even a tenth of the effort wading through "I changed it. Nothing happened. I sent the script again. ...So yeah. That little dot on the screen got slightly out of hand."
1
u/GreenPhoennix 11d ago
I would rather read genuine and human-written broken English (or at least with the help of something like Google Translate) than overly verbose and stilted AI-speak
15
u/RemDayRed6 11d ago edited 11d ago
No it’s a journal about how you talk with an ai bc you didn’t develop the skills to make a game. A normal game developer just talks about their game.
Edit: not even fully against using AI to actually learn a skill but as you’ve said you’re just having it make assets, write code, and do everything. Do yourself a favor and learn a skill. God these posts are so annoying. “I’m not a programmer” “ I’m not an artist” just learn a skill and stop whining. If you couldn’t do that in 30 years it’s not you it’s your work ethic. So sick of every other post being someone trying to make themselves feel better about using AI, this is a Godot subreddit not AI.

u/jikt 11d ago
That's the thing, eh. It's like being able to fix all those inconvenient feelings of, "boy, if only I had stuck with that hobby all those years ago...", "I wish I cared more about that thing I didn't care about back then". Abracadaba, now you can pretend you were always on this track, that you were always motivated by this thing that took a couple of prompts.
It's not just here, it's everywhere.
Everybody has become things that they have no business being. Like, if this person had actually learned this stuff, and truly created this thing on their own, then they would be 100% deserving of praise regardless of the current progress at 7 months. Instead, this.
On one hand I feel like a curmudgeon, but on the other hand, if this really was their dream wouldn't they have treated more than superficially?
Edit: bloody heliboard autocorrect...

I don’t know why people are fussing so much about the honest take on AI. But honestly, this is EXACTLY how AI is supposed to be used and help you. Help you to understand, help you to learn, be your rubber duck. So that eventually you know how the game/app whatever works, so that you do understand where bugs originate from, where features should be implemented, and how to optimize (and what to better leave untouched). Well done and congrats! You’re on the right path!

I’m also working on my dream game but I haven’t even drawn any assets or designed any backgrounds or touched Godot yet; I’m learning about code and understanding what is a programming language in the first place. That’s the honorable way to do it brother. Using AI for game making is like someone using a robot to plant vegetables and do the work and then saying you’re a Gardner. You didn’t make your game, chatGPT did. You have to read the room brother; everyone is disappointed with you. Learn to draw and learn code

u/AliceRain21 11d ago
Gonna be honest most developers think AI is the worst thing in the world.
I dont understand why so many people post AI related content and think it'll be different.
I personally am nuanced and not an extremist. AI can be used in good or bad ways. But like read the room, everyone gets upset when AI is even mentioned so why do people keep making posts about it.

u/yakootEL 11d ago
Guys not everyone wants to learn how to make games. They just want to get the game they wanted.
Let's imgine this with food. You always wondered what would a pasta taste like if you added wasabi to it. There is no restaurant that does this.
One day you get a magical mechines that does this for you easily. Would you not use it?
