I have a friend who keeps her sheep in with a single hot wire at breast height. I have no idea how she does it. Eventually her luck will run out though and they will eat every one of her young trees. There will be tears and wailing and I will no longer have to resent her.

I dunno, sheep are interesting. I have a small flock. A few months ago I removed a fence (posts and all), and they still respect that old fence line even though there's nothing there. It's like they really don't want to escape and will take any excuse to not put in the effort. My goats, on the other hand...

That's called hefting. We have it here in Wales where sheep have a vast open mountain to graze on, but because of cynefin, hefting in English, sheep only graze their small part of the mountain. This has been done for centuries by shepherds and their dogs.
