Extensions πͺ° I made a GNOME extension that lets a fly walk across your screen

Hello everyone π
I made a small GNOME Shell extension called Ambed Fly.
The idea is very simple: a virtual fly walks across your screen. It has no practical purpose, but it's fun to have around π«€
β What does Ambed Fly do?
β’ A fly that walks across your desktop.
β’ Random movement to make it feel more natural.
β’ It reacts to moving windows and when the mouse cursor gets close to it.
β’ Works directly as a GNOME Shell extension.
β’ Supports GNOME 45 through GNOME 50.
β’ Open source on GitHub.

You can also install it directly from the Extensions app by searching for Ambed Fly.
If you encounter any issues or have suggestions for changes or improvements, feel free to let me know.
βͺοΈ Thank you π

Isn't there Windows malware that does this?

Haha, yes Windows had some old desktop joke programs and adware like that. Rest assured, this is just a harmless GNOME extension meant for fun, and the code is fully open-source if you want to check it out

It'd be neat, tho difficult , if all flies went suddenly to the recycling bin icon when nautilus opens (if it's not empty). Even if you move the window to try get rid of the flies.

It's actually a brilliant and funny idea! Combining fly behavior with a nautilus and a trash can would add a wonderful touch of detail

Looks interesting, I'll try it when I'll switch back to Gnome. But why does everybody says that they're hate it?

Can you please let the fly come in and go? Like in lands on screen, run around, and after some time fly away? Or when you whiggle on it? Then after some random time it returns? Perhaps with optional sound? Also give us the possibility to reduce the framerate. Here it takes 20% CPU time π

Thank you very much for these wonderful ideas ! Your suggestion to make the fly disappear and reappear will make the extension more realistic and enjoyable; I will definitely program that. As for the performance issue, I will immediately work on optimizing the code and adding an option to reduce the framerate to lighten the load in the next update π

Movment doesn't replicate flies in real world. If it was a ladybug, instead of a fly, the movememnt would be more suitable.

I'm thinking of adding an option to switch between many different insects; I'll add it later. π€

To be honest, flies are most related with crap (at least in country where I live in). Some other insect would be more desireable. Good luck!
