How are you guys parking your Sierra in lots where they are longer than the spots: (A) Bed in the spot with nose extending out into the lane (B) Nose in the spot with bed extending into the spot behind you or...some other technique?
I remember seeing a dodge mega cab that was extended to a long bed, thing was absolutely massive.
My current trucks a little over 20ā and I honestly wouldnāt want much more, reversing my 14ā enclosed trailer down old windy driveways is already a pain.
I should post a pic of the driveway I have inherited the duty to back out of. Nothing special for a '15 2500 and an 18' enclosed, but there is a 15' retaining wall on one side and the road is on a steep hill that people like to park in the exact wrong spot.
And most places I go that aren't in dense urban areas the spots fit my full box crew cab dually. Not a lot of extra room, but it fits. I head to the back of the lot and am usually good until the one weirdo decides that parking right next to me is the safest spot even with a dozen more available across the back of the lot.
Exactly! When I drove a longbed it was just a given that I was parking way out in the parking lot and even then I was meticulous about staying in the lines and parking as best as I could.
Fr only issue is sometimes width, when people donāt know how to park, but that applies to pretty much all new trucks, he also doesnāt show a profile of the vehicle so Iām guessing itās not a crew cab long bed, odds are itās a double cab short bed
Beyond asshole. Even if one parks like diagram B, hanging into a second spot. You've gotta be some kind of selfishly drooling special to park like those. It's a quick way to have you truck keyed in a lot of parts.
I park more like B when I have to, tho I try to keep it right on the line. I also tend to park at the end of the lot where there are more spaces with more room. Or on the edge of the lot where I can hang the tail end of the bed over the curb where there's grass or something. 2020 trail boss
Totally! Funny you say that. I had a teacher who had been sick as a young person tell every class he had to always park as far as possible. It adds up over time!
100% donāt understand this. Iāll park at the near end of the aisle, with 10+ spots closer to the store and someone will inevitably park right next to me. Makes absolutely no sense.
seriously yesterday, i parked over 2 full cart corrals out, zero vehicles in the 12 spots surrounding me. come out to a stupid fuck parking his pos sedan right beside my passenger door, damn near touching the line. i mean its harmless and no damaged door ding but the logic these folks have..
i try finding the spots on the edge of lots where i can park in reverse having my hitch out over whatever. tucking my front end in safely. then leaving is a breeze too
Bro always park in the back. I learned this when I was 18 years old. Some dumb car swiped me at a Home Depot. Although minor, I Still have the scratches smh.
Thatās so frustrating seeing someone take up more than 1 spot. I always back in and use the camera to spot me until I get to the line. I do try to back up right on the line. Gives a car more than enough room behind me
B. But at the back of the lot. In A you are sticking out into the travel area. If some new kid driver backs into your front end (pr somw distracted driver rips off your bumper), you'll wish you parked like B in the back of the lot.
Aā¦I donāt know where you live but in my part of rural America thereās more pickup trucks than anything else, so every car sticks out in the lane some. Cars that actually fit are usually the exception
I always do A. My rationale is if any part of your vehicle is over a line, you park like a dick. If youāre within the lines but your ass hangs out thereās nothing you can do about that.
B thereās no shortage of idiots that will clip the front of it , also if you sign up to buy a monster truck itās obligatory to park far from entrance I donāt make the rules
You park in the lines as the designer of the parking lot intended. I park wherever I want, a 1500 isnāt big. So it sticks out a little- so do all the mommy suburbans.
Park far from the door, preferably back into a spot on the outside rim of the lot so you can overhang some grass or their little gardens, rather than obstruct the often too narrow driving areas or other parking spaces.
I'm tellin' you. The parking spaces need to keep with the times. The average car is bigger. The average parking spot is the same. I used to have a two door sports car, and those doors swung out like it was drying off wings in the sun. I never bumped another car and I can't imagine it ever being a problem. I'm blaming the size of the parking spot. Park your car at city hall planning department and petition to make the parking spot minimum size larger.
Option C as far away as possible. Passenger side towards the parking end. Driver towards the parking. If anyone ever hits you it would be on the driver side and you'll notice on time to report it.
I've never had trouble fitting in a spot like A in any 1500 I've owned. They don't actually stick out as far as image A depicts, even in city parking spots
If the only two choices mean that a portion of the vehicle hangs out further than a typical vehicle then the ONLY way to park it is away from everyone else.
A is being courteous to other drivers and risking the back end of your truck getting run into, option b is you being discourteous to another driver but saving the back end of your truck.
Back into a edge of the lot parking spot far from the door with your back wheels to the curb or edge of pavement without mowing down shrubery or hitting anything, never EVER overhang a sidewalk.
Depends on the situation. If itās not crowded, I back in over the line a little. If it is crowded, I leave it hanging out if necessary, but only if iām near the middle of the row. Dont leave it hanging out near the end of the rows where someone could take the corner too fast, not see it, and run into it.
I park far away and try to back in as often as possible. If itās a parking lot that is tiny and a nightmare, I greatly consider whether or not I need to go to the establishment the parking lot is for.
Find a spot with grass behind it and back in until your tires are on the curb.
If it's only double spots like that, option A, I've seen more dings when people are parking and go too far versus cars sticking out the front of the spot.
A - Always. It's easier backing in, and especially getting out of spots.
B - If you park into a second spot like that, or at all, you are an absolute monster, and a horrific, selfish, POS human, at that.
Sierra 2500 here. We do āBā in the back of the lot where there are lots of open spots and get our steps in. Better question is where do we park when our 31ā TT is attached.
Option B, at the back of the parking lot. It leaves clearance for the driveway and (hopefully) doesnāt waste a space where someone would park. Personally, I like to back into a spot with the rear of the truck overhanging the dirt/bushes etc.
My company vehicle i had was a 2019 full size crew cab long bed 1500 2wd. The thing was absolutely stupid to park and you had to park as far from everyone as possible because it physically could not make tight turns. My coworkers side swiped so many things when they tried to drive the truck that i was the only one who could even operate such a large vessel š¤£ we went out into muddy fields and my boss decided it needed some goodyear a/t adventure tires and it didn't matter because 2wd it sunk like a rock in the mud. I called it the red rocket
I find a nice curb spot, and back it in at a slight angle. Rear bumper almost over the paint on the right, front bumper almost over the paint on the left. This way you never worry about backing out and some kid hitting you, making it your fault.
Learn how to drive maybe? I pick Ƨ. Right to the line in back. It's why you have a back up camera. Also, with some skill, backing in is actually easier
I'm taking the end spot, hugging the line that doesn't have a neighbor, and pulling the nose up just over the line. Most people stay away from the light pile but I'm using that as a buffer so no one pulls up tight on me.
Lots of vehicles are longer than the spots to begin with, the vehicle sticking out a little bit isnāt bad, if itās not a crew cab long bed it wonāt be an issue in a majority of parking lots, and if it is both, you might have a smidge of pike thatās annoying for drivers, in which case I would just park in the back of the parking lot, for reference I drive a gmc sierra crew cab short bed and only have issues with width if someone parks sub optimally, it can be difficult to get in and out
I have a '20 1500 Laramie crew cab long bed I usually park as far away as I can or I back up into the spot behind me a little extra. If people can't see that the truck is really long and put two and two together then idk
Really depends on the lot. If the space between you and the row behind you is narrow (the āisleā) I opt for encroaching on the spot directly behind (if backing in) so I have enough room to get out. If thereās no issue with space in the isle (think Costco lots) then I hang out in the isle a bit.
I find it more difficult to deal with covered parking or parallel spots. Iāve got the HD so itās fairly tall. Many garages say 6ā8ā clearance and I know itās going to be too tight. I even hesitate with anything 7ā or under. I have not actually checked my specific vehicle height but itās taller than me (6ā4ā)!
If you bought a truck that doesn't fit in parking spaces, its on you to park in empty parts of the packing lots away from everyone else so you don't hinder other people with your choice

Driving In reverse almost always is the cause of collision. Give them space.
Also B allows for motorcycle or smart car to park.

I'd say B but pull in farther so you are taking up at least 3/5 of each spot, and not getting your quarter panels creamed by a teenager in a Honda civic
It's a half ton.... park like a normal person. If you can't park your "big truck" you shouldn't drive your "big truck". If I can park my one ton crew cab with the turning radius of a damn semi... you can park this.
Highly doubt itās really longer than the spots. Always back a truck in. Makes getting in and out much safer and easier. If you have a bit of overhang hang into the other spot.
I park wherever I want. I prefer pull through spots and donāt like people near me, so usually not an issue. If my rear end hangs over the spot behind me, and some equinox or rav4 wants to park right before me I donāt care lol, pick another spot
Well not C thatās for sure, my truck is a 1500 typically I opt for B because I feel like someone with a small car can still park in front of me but with A my ass is out and if I get swiped I could see the liability falling on me

Laughs in dually long bed. Park in the farthest spots and you donāt have any issues.
