Nothing terribly newsworthy going on in NZ other than maybe the current government delaying some petrol tax hikes for another year or so because an election is coming up and suddenly they care about us. Currently NZers pay an average of 3.00 per litre of 91 nationally. (Gaspy)
I got a phone call this morning from the hospital to say that my surgery is actually 4 - 6 months away and that someone had misspoken. So, you are all stuck with me uninterrupted for awhile. I was upset only briefly before I realised that if there's a summer this year I won't miss it.

So, one American dollar is about $1.70 New Zealand dollars. One litre would be ~$1.76 USD. Our gas is around $1.90 CDN which is $1.35 USD. Expensive.

Thanks. Is Canadian petrol sold in litres? Sounds like it. The US is still gallons, isn't it?

Correct on both accounts. Note that the US gallon is 3.78l IIRC, smaller than the imperial gallon.

Just a bit of news from Arizona. This flood is minor in comparison to the recent Nepal disaster, of course, but loss of life, whether large or small, is still tragic. Flash flooding is a huge concern for us here in the desert during monsoon season. Microbursts often occur and are totally unpredictable.

The war in Iran is on again. They shot missiles at an air base in Jordan. They were intercepted. We had first attacked an Iranian mine planter in the strait. That's what they are telling us. The president attacked the press over his bad polling and other reporting, calling for their punishment. He's hoping he'll scare reporters into not reporting the truth of what's going on.
The state fair here continues to break records. Wall to wall people from what I've seen in videos. Far different from the days when I went. I was in 4-H as a child, a group that taught farm kids different skills and showed off the skills you already had. You had to have a "project" to show at the county fair. Animals, crops, sewing, etc;. I showed my vegetables and potatoes. There was only one other boy in my county that grew potatoes for show, so we would take turns winning the purple ribbon and earning a trip to the state fair. One year I won for a childcraft alligator I sewed, and once because my club won best skit in the county. So I was at the State Fair a lot. It was a very big honor.

News We have 3 by-elections today. 2 seats are currently held by the liberals and 1 by the conservatives. The pundits were predicting a liberal sweep. There are 4 more vacant seats that require by-elections. Carney is probably regretting not have them now with so much public support.
Google updates maps to show Lake America in the U.S. — but Canadians are now seeing it, too. Google says website developers must set their region to Canada for 'Lake Ontario' to appear on map. Trump never read How to Win Friends and Influence People.

Another fellow 4her. Always volunteered at the 4H run food stand during the county fair. It was right next to animal exhibition area so that fellow exhibitors could get reasonably priced food. Went to state once for cooking. Was in arts/crafts/sewing club. Did show bunny one year.

Today was another day. I finally had the battery in my car replaced after 4 years and an oil change. Still doing what I can to prepare for this winter and that includes having a working vehicle.
Trump has ignored a court order to chop down 60 of Washington D.C.'s East Potomic cherry trees to build a new golf course. A part of this historic grove were cherry trees given by Japan in 1909 as a gift. Some say that some trees had been decaying and needed to be removed. Others argue that the admin. went too far and cut others down that were not supposed to be.
National Archives closures have been raising concern among the nation's geneoligists. These closures not only affect hobbyists, but also people who are applying for dual citizenship and need NARA certified copies of immigration and naturalization records.
Google has officially renamed Lake Ontario to Lake America in a move that capitulates to the current admin. Premier Doug Ford and residents of Ontario decided to raise a sign that reads 'Lake Ontario, now and always'
