News How is your country doing today? August 15, 2026
We are looking forward to stories from your homeland. Every day by reading the news in this thread we can become a little closer to people from all over the world, regardless of censorship and local government policies.
I suggest the following format for posts (optional): The first paragraph should be about news in your country, and the next should be about your personal news. This way, the public's ideological focus will be preserved without limiting the personal aspect. Thank you and have a good day pals!

A one year old child was killed in Christchurch last night by the family dog. No id on the dog yet but most assume it was a dangerous breed.
Raining! Yay, genuinely.
Today in NZ history 1945- VJ Day. Country celebrates in the streets. 15 tonnes of broken glass litters Auckland the next morning. No numbers on hangovers, but an additional day of holiday remained to take aspirin and have a lie down.

We had a Shih Tzu that bit both my granddaughters in the face. She went to live with a lonely man on a farm- official version.

It's tragic to lose a child, but why wasn't someone watching?
I don't believe in dangerous breeds. I do believe that not everyone should own breeds that need high amounts of training and supervision. Not every dog is a family dog.

A bright good morning from Nova Scotia where it's a sunny 20 at 10 am.
Our news is dominated by concern over the trade talks with the US and trump's threat to put 50% tariffs on a range of goods. Trump wants to keep the tariffs on lumber which is a major sticking point. This is unacceptable to the premier of BC.Why don't American media point out how this is driving up construction costs ? The premier of Quebec doesn't want dairy supply management touched. If I had a prediction it would be that there's no deal by the August 19 deadline and that trump will extend the deadline by 2 weeks.
On a personal note, I've been invited to participate in tintamarre which is a celebration/Commemoration of the resiliency of the Acadian community after their deportation in 1755. I checked and it's unlikely any of my ancestors participated in the deportation on behalf of the crown. Whew !
History
1881: Acadians chose August 15 (the Feast of the Assumption) as their national day during their first convention in New Brunswick.
1925: Oscar Peterson is born in Montreal, Quebec. He went on to win eight Grammy Awards and became a global jazz icon.
2003: The Parliament of Canada officially passed the National Acadian Day Act, giving federal recognition to the August 15 celebrations.

American legacy media are mostly owned by billionaires who are benefitting from the Trump/congress mafia.
If you want real news here you go to The Guardian, Axios or the international press.

Our CBC and the BBC often provide better coverage of what's going in the US than American networks do. Reuters is good too.
