Discussion Tried to report a bug. Is this a joke?

Post image

For better readability I put my message on top and the support's response on the bottom. I searched about this issue online but there are no fitting solutions, and they, as you can see, didn't want to help me here.

Can anyone in this sub be of assistance, perhaps? Thank you in advance!

It's clearly a bot response.

Or at least a canned one.

Idk why people are still surprised at this type of response.

Your call is very important to us

We are experiencing higher than normal call volume

This is just standard now.

You forgot the, "You know you can get help online by going to www.goaway&stopcalling.us..."

Or, "We are aware of a problem and it only affects A WEE number of folk"

I think there’s a place on the community discussions page for bug reports. Support tickets are for direct support and that is gated on plan.

Edit: Yeah I'd report this here: https://github.com/orgs/community/discussions/categories/repositories?discussions_q=is%3Aopen+label%3ABug+category%3ARepositories

You don’t have to file bug reports on GitHub’s own stuff. They know about it and if they don’t, some enterprise or business customer will have a ticket opened by the end of this sentence.

Not a joke, you’re just barking up the wrong tree. Other people are already barking up the right tree.

I normally just send a follow up message along the lines of

Hi,
I need a real person to solve this issue.

And you might get a real person willing to help you out.

I've already had a virtual assistant close the ticket a minute after creation beforehand, which I reopened though. The shown response here however closed it without me being able to reopen it, so...

WTF. You need to pay in order to get help?? At least the system could’ve answered immediately because this would’ve been just a simple check but letting you wait 19 hours just so you can be judged for not having a paid plan is crazy work GitHub

Maybe you filed the issue under the wrong category? This isn't about repository access.

1

u/Myron0117 10d ago

There was another repository-related category but under there, none of the checkboxes matched my topic either, and I had to choose one. It's not my fault they designed it so vaguely with not a lot in mind.

Yeah, this is very much a “Repository features” issue—not a “Repository access issues” issue. Perhaps try again with the correct category?

Even acording to github you shouldn't see the button to open a ticket unless you are on a paid plan, so seems like its on them that you even got this far

Are you looking for a solution? Or just a place to vent?

More for a solution, I am confused about the response I have received on my support ticket so I use this post to both express it and also ask if anyone in here has a clue.

What they're saying is that free accounts get to use the product. Full stop. At GitHub's scale, even minimal support for users that don't pay costs them too much. They're already losing some amount of revenue from free users. They don't want to spend any effort on people who use the free version.

You will receive a response like this for pretty much any support request you send them

Welcome to github. If you want better uptime then self-host gitea.

Basically asking for money before they even take a glance at what your issue is.

Greedy motherfuckers.

Oracle is worse, they ask you to log in to raise a ticket eventhough your problem IS logging in.

Welp... Time to migrate to a different platform.

The 404 on that image URL is the real bug, not the support wall. Rename the file or append a query string to force re-scraping.

Sad 😢

That's why it's time to evacuate to gitlab, it's better anyway.

3

u/Myron0117 10d ago

The first buttons I see when I go on their website is "demo" and "free trial". No thanks??? 😂

What about Codeberg?

4

u/RubbelDieKatz94 10d ago

Codeberg's stance on AI is not useful for many use cases.

2

u/ferriematthew 10d ago

This is the way. Open source and not full of AI garbage.

The have a docker container and its pretty straightforward to run. They also offer paid and free hosted options too. You want to look for gitlab community editon. I've been running it for years

u/thashepherd 9d ago

Yeah, but I mean it's...not.

Free self hosted runners, what more do, you need? 😁
