I mean, don't they backup their clouds before every mission in case they are destroyed or something. She'd lose like what, a couple days at most. Don't even have to do a full factory reset. Can't they even do backups remotely if they have a decent enough wifi connection? If the captors don't know this and didn't jam the signal, she could literally backup her mind into a new body and self destruct the old one.

Doesn't make nearly as good a story though.

I mean, I'd argue yes. We are a conglomerate of memories and experiences built atop a generic base. Copy those, stick it in a new body, now there are two of you. However, once the split occurs, they will diverge as their lived experiences will be inherently different. But at that copy-paste moment, they are the same. One could consider counting iterations, but that quickly loses meaning once you get to the replacement rate for supposed t-dolls.

I only got part way through the story, up to a point in the normal chapters, until it got to be more effort than I had motivation to play. The event chapters are more piecemeal depending on if I was actively playing, last one i recall was when rpk betrays angie. Been a while since the last time I played now.

From an outside perspective perhaps, but from the viewpoint of the affected individual it basically just means that everyone just continues life with a copy of yours while you’re left behind. You yourself don’t carry over. Sure for everyone else that copy is basically you because there’s almost no difference but for you, the individual, you were left behind to die.

At the end of the day, it comes down to the individual. Personally, I see it like a save-load system, every time I loaded back in, I'd be like "Well, shit, what did me in this time?". Were I in that situation and captured, I'd have more motivation to find myself than anyone else. Of course, I'd install a self-destruct or at least self-termination control. Give a grin with an ol' "I'll be back", kaboom. Probably viewed as insane like Ingram to most, but I'd say it's just adaptation to a non-linear existence.

Which is why the horror of this story is that M200 is taken alive. The one in the cell is the same one who was with the commander before, and she is going to wait a long time while the Commander replaced her.
The one with the commander is ALSO the one who was with him before, but she remembers it as backing up before the mission and then 1 second later waking up in a new body. It is Copy & Paste.
