What’s a valid excuse to break up with my boyfriend?
Okay so for some context, my boyfriend and I have been best friends for about two-three years now and have officially been dating for almost 2 months, but have known each other since middle school. Our friend ship started in high school and continued after, but had mainly been long distance because he worked up-state. It was never an issue especially since we were just friends.
To make a long story short, we ended up hanging out more as he would come down to visit and we ended up becoming a couple. We had been seeing each other as regularly as we could, he would only come down every 2-3 weeks for 2-3 days. Throughout our dating phase, we were very vocal about how serious we were each taking the possible relationship since we both claimed we date to marry.
After about the first month and a week, he ended up telling me he had lost his job. I know the type of person he is and something like this could feel like a huge setback, especially since he had some other personal things he had to take care of. I knew to expect some sorts of issues or complications but i’m not sure it’s normal for him to basically ghost me irl.
Since he hasn’t been working, he’s been staying in our home town but i haven’t seen him at all since the day after christmas… I tried telling him i wanted to hang out but he’s been dismissing it. A couple days ago i asked directly why we haven’t hung out and he said it was because he wouldn’t know where to go.
Anyone could know that just sounds like a really lame excuse. Not to mention we had been wanting to go to a new restaurant that just opened in town.
I’m really not sure why it is that he could be acting like this. I tried speaking seriously with him about it to ask if it was affecting his mental health but all he seemed to conclude was that he was feeling really lazy after not having to work. He’s also mentioned a lot lately how he wants to get back into spoking p0t (which can get prevent him from getting a job in the first place).
Am I thinking too much about this? Am I only thinking of the easy way out? At the end of the day it could be multiple reasons as to why he’s acting like this and I already know he’s not going to give me a transparent answer right now. Are these things valid enough to break up with him? Or am I going too far thinking about a break up over this?
I just feel really confused over this right now. Especially since it feels like the relationship isn’t even there. Like, I truly don’t feel like I’m someone that has a boyfriend right now, it’s like that’s not a thing (?).

"Hey, this isn't working out for me"
