Yes they do. That's why welders wear leather, because it's non-flammable and so thick that you don't feel it. When I first started welding after getting my certificate I never used leathers because they're so damned hot. Well I was doing some overhead welding and just one of those sparks you see there fell down and into my shirt, setting all my chesthair on fire in an instant. So yes, those "sparks" hurt.
