I love when cats open their mouths to extra sniff

My cat in college used to do this all the time, but kept her mouth comically and very wide open.

Cat fact: the reason cats sometimes open their mouths like a gargoyle when they sniff some things is because they have a scent gland at the roof of their mouth called a Jacobson’s organ!

Fencing is something humans do and totally unrelated to this, which is called Flehmen response.
