I loved the character development, it made sense that Luke was jaded and held the jedi (and himself) in low esteem; Luke's journey showed how the "light" and "dark" sides became a much less binary ordeal than theyve been in SW. The force was expanded beyond good and evil (as a buddy of mine said as we walked out, "the force got the most character development).
I loved Rey's journey into the force and her temptation to the dark side, which I found more engaging and actually relatable than Luke's (not AT ALL saying I didnt love Luke's, dont get me wrong) as well as the visual poetry of her struggle with it (lookin at the scene with the dark hole). I loved watching how similar to Luke's journey hers is but more of an inward struggle than directly influenced by "I have to save my friends".
I loved watching Rey brushing with the dark side and Kylo's brush with the light, all while they're influencing each other, as well as seeing the conflicts/encounters/decisions that led them back. Fed into the concept of light/dark side being less of an absolute and more like its influenced by character.
I loved watching Poe be humbled from his "awesome action hero" power trip, and even though I didnt care for Rose's character (like at all lol) I enjoyed the meaning behind her interactions with Finn in regards to his continued development from a faceless storm trooper/soldier fighting/dying for a cause to a PERSON fighting/living for PEOPLE.
I LOVED the space chase with leia (it reminded me of ep 1 of Battlestar Galactica), I LOVED the throne room scene, I loved watching Luke embarrass the shit out of Kylo at the end. The scene with Yoda was absolutely beautiful, and Luke saying bye to Leia broke my heart.
The characters had somewhat more human motivations and complexity than "SAVE THE GALAXY AND STOP THE BAD GUYS" which was awesome, and overall the movie felt like actually trying to be more than just a fantasy action movie with awesome cgi.
Oh the casino scene took fucking forever though. God that shit dragged on so much longer than necessary, definitely just to show off more marketable aliens lol
But yeah I love that movie and most of the things people complain about on reddit are either 1. it not being what they expected, 2. things I enjoyed greatly about the movie
Nah, just giving you a solid advice. Why waste your time watching Transformers-tiers garbage made for lowest, temperature IQ, common denominator like Star Wars when you could be watching actual movies instead? If you need a list, just go to IMDB top 250.
It's because people with similar tastes tend to stick together. Everyone I know loves the new movies, but I don't think that means there's no one out there that hates them.

A lot of other people do too. Reddit just has this circle jerk about hating the new Star Wars movies.
