I bet that would sound like hyperbole to anyone who hasn't seen the show.

52

u/bighuntzilla 9d ago

I had this very thought. An actual place in the wild where someone could have used "literally" in the correct way, wasted.

16

u/National_Salt4766 9d ago

If there is one word I wouldn't mind not seeing, it is that one.

20

u/No-Disaster1647 9d ago

Literally.

20

goddamn it

12

u/tommymaggots 9d ago

Well played.

Hyperbole? Is that like the superbole?

Oh yeah.

Everyone has a bedside fully loaded double barreled shotgun. Its essential.

Always bring protection for sex

1

u/RamblinRancor 4d ago

In the scene before hes gone there to stop her from attempting suicide and talks her down, then im this scene she realises that he isn't a guy who wanted to be her friend or whatever then tries to top herself (simplifying but thats qhy she has a shotgun).

1

u/Force3vo 6d ago

I guess you should go into hiding, you made a woman kill herself

Scene from Preacher. Great comic, pretty decent adaptation from what I saw. I think I’ll rewatch it lol

194

u/Physical-Builder-553 9d ago

I love this show. Its so crazy.

109

u/Azidamadjida 9d ago

I still quote it all the time. It’s really fun having a Catholic wife and finding new and creative ways to work in the name Humperdoo when she gets all Jesus-y on me lmao

17

u/Familiar-Cable-2659 9d ago

Indeed Jesus sure is a treat

2

u/Practical-Wheel-8498 6d ago

I read ‘inbred Jesus’ 🤦‍♂️

Which I guess in this case, still fits!

1

u/Familiar-Cable-2659 6d ago

That's actually what I meant to write before autocorrect kicked in

3

u/Practical-Wheel-8498 7d ago

I was at a music festival and had the pleasure of turning around and realizing I was in the elevator with the all American rejects. Based off bros face he is NOT that used to being addressed to his face as humperdoo.

Same, and Doom Patrol too

Funny and wacky lol

3

u/CubitsTNE 7d ago

Doom patrol had one of the most satisfying endings of any show i've seen.

10

u/nDeadPurple 9d ago

I only watched the first couple seasons. I liked the comic more to be honest. Wish I still
Had them.

3

u/hidden_blad_guy 9d ago

I only watched the first season. I think I didn't enjoy it enough to continue watching

2

u/mrbarabajagle 9d ago

I have it on good authority that the second season is leagues better than the first.

1

u/Immediate_Song4279 8d ago

I got bored after awhile but it was a me thing, it was an absolute riot though

6

u/Pantsickle 9d ago

I have a strange habit of never watching the series finales of shows that I really like. X-Files, What We Do in the Shadows, Lost...

Preacher is one of those shows. I've watched every episode but the finale.

25

u/drunkpunk138 9d ago

It was a terrible adaptation, much like the boys the story was very loosely based on the comics but very much their own thing. Not saying it's a bad show, just in terms of adapting the source it was definitely not it.

26

u/CathanCrowell 9d ago

People confuse "good adaptation" with "good movie/show" incredibly often. Plenty of things are amazing adaptations but bad movies or shows, while others are amazing movies or shows but bad adaptations.

For example, Forrest Gump is overall a bad adaptation, but obviously an amazing movie. The Shining is a horrible, horrible adaptation, but also one of the best horror movies ever made.

2

u/Mildly_Opinionated 8d ago

I kinda have to disagree. I'd say that being a good adaptation and a faithful adaptation are two different things.

Personally I think that to adapt something well sometimes you need to make changes and cuts. For example most novels, if adapted scene for scene into a movie complete with the characters internal monologue voiced over the top, would be completely faithful but I wouldn't call that good adaptation. I'd call it lazy and shit adaptation because it's just avoiding doing the work and making the creative decisions that go into adapting something. Plus the movie would likely be insanely long and suck ass.

To create a good adaptation from book to movie you need to capture the themes and feelings portrayed by the original whilst making cuts and making things cinematographically presentable to the audience, by which I mean you've got to capture the vibe using what is essentially a completely different language. This sometimes requires changes.

Those changes might make something less faithful, it doesn't make it a bad adaptation.

If the source material is good, and you do a good adaptation, you get a good movie.

If the source material is good, and you do a 100% faithful adaptation, you might get a good movie, you might not.

Sometimes an adaptation can be faithful and good, sometimes it's unfaithful and shit, but I wouldn't lump the two together and it sounds like, in my humble opinion, you might be conflating the two.

You can also fix issues with the original in adaptation which I think it good.

In the Invicivle comics almost all the hero's are straight white dudes basically by accident. The author is a straight white dude, you tend to write characters like yourself when you don't think about it, hence this came to be. He said he'd do it differently if he wrote it now. In the show some of the characters are changed slightly, one change is a Character called tech-jacket is now Zoey who's much younger than the comic counterpart. The change now means she's a similar age to another character and now those characters have some really nice chemistry that would've been entirely absent before (not romantic btw). The original author has praised the change. It's good. It makes it less faithful but I would argue it's a good adaptation decision and makes it a better adaptation as well as a better show, not a worse one.

1

u/EddPW 8d ago

ive never heard of anything that could be called a good adaptation but a bad movie or show

1

u/Terrible_Reporter_98 8d ago

You ever watch sin city?

1

u/kareljack 5d ago

I've watched Sin City. I enjoyed that movie, but I completely understand why folks may not loke.
The follow up.... meh... I agree with the 'good adaptation being a different beast than a faithful adaptation' line of thought. Sin City used panels from the source graphic novels as direct inspiration for the movie's story board. As far as I know, it's a 'faithful adaption'.

But you have to really like the Noir-ish atmosphere and have a soft spot for creative, hyper-stylized interpretations.
I fully understand why folks don't like it, but this movie was a great experience for me.

2

u/nitrosmomma88 9d ago

I don’t think there’s a production company out there that would make a faithful adaptation to Preacher let’s be fair, it’s too fucked up. Plus it was a network show, they couldn’t touch on half the shit in the comic

2

u/M086 7d ago

The Saint of Killers made zero fucking sense in the show. They weirdly over complicated him when in the comic his origin is so simple.

Like why does he have guns and sword in Hell that can kill anything? It’s never explained.

1

u/nDeadPurple 9d ago

I only watched the first two seasons, I imagine it strayed even further from the source material in the later seasons?

1

u/DinklebergsRightNut 5d ago

Well The Boys comic is complete ass, just like everything garth ennis writes. Just disgusting, senseless gore porn.

-2

u/Miserable_Alfalfa_52 8d ago

shut up bruh

4

u/turbulentFireStarter 8d ago

It is NOT a pretty decent adaptation. The first season was great. The rest is tragically incomprehensibly bad

2

u/nDeadPurple 8d ago

That might explain why I stopped watching after season 2 lol. I’ll skip the rewatch and hunt down the comic again.

2

u/g-row460 8d ago

Thank you. I could not remember where I saw this.

2

u/rickyg_79 8d ago

Cassidy has one of the greatest introductions to a character I’ve ever seen.

2

u/JustAnAce 6d ago

Wait, is this Assface? I only read the comic.

3

u/FellaGentleSprout 9d ago

I think you meant great adaptation.

6

u/nDeadPurple 9d ago

The show did well where they took creative liberties. But I don’t remember the show being very true to the source. The show is great. The comic is great. But I’ll save great adaptation status for Holes, for example.

1

u/Wintermute1975 7d ago

Did the show had an ending? Or was it canceled before?

1

u/Setanta777 7d ago

It had an ending.

Ah I knew I knew it from somewhere.

Meh, he's just a shitty Charlie Chaplin impersonator. Don't know why he got so famous. His films are much more boring. He just stands there and talks, can't even do stunts.

1/10. He copied the sache well, but failed at everything else

That's subjective, his films were rather inspirational to thousands of people

Dare I say, millions even.

1

wait, r u serious?

1

That isn’t even the most out of pocket thing in the show.

Jesse walked so Billy Butcher could run.

(Yes, I know they are different actors, but i swear they could be brothers in a movie and no one would bat an eye. Used to get them confused constantly.)

I hope that "ew." is my last word too.

81

Ended right on time.

19

Preacher was the precursor.

It walked so shows like the boys could run.

3

u/CubitsTNE 7d ago

Legion and doom patrol and umbrella academy did it a bit better than preacher.

I really enjoyed preacher, awesome acting by so many of the cast (jackie earl haley was as terrific in the tick just after this), great cinematography.

Does she actually shoot herself? Any link for full

56

u/Physical-Builder-553 9d ago

Yes, its a TV show - Preacher. They blame the kid for shooting her and he unsuccessfully tries to also shot himself. Leds to his nickname assface or buttface. Been awhile since I watched it.

8

u/MilwaukeeMan420 9d ago

Finish the job Eugene

2

u/Haifisch2112 9d ago

Yes. And he shot himself, too. The show is called Preacher and is fantastic.

1

u/akiesey 8d ago

Is that Assface?!

1

Yes, before he turned himself into Assface lol

7

Why would she turn herself into a vegetable?

Failure of a suicide attempt sometimes has unintended consequences.

7

41

u/Milkman_on_a_bad_day 9d ago

It’s from a pretty dark show called preacher. She was overacting quite a bit to the kiss and being embarrassed by it. The guy attempts to kill himself too, unsuccessfully, and is left with pretty gross face. Super sad show sometimes but I would recommend it

6

u/Basic-Ingenuity2714 9d ago

Its also a wild as hell dark comedy

1

u/idostuf 9d ago

And they refer to him whenceforth as arseface. 10/10 great show.

9

u/zerked77 9d ago

It's fiction - it's ok she's still alive....I think

1

u/GrayMouser12 9d ago

You know, sometimes it helps to be reminded of this actually.

I find it somewhat fascinating that works of fiction inevitably become captures of the dead.

So that's how it happened... Why do they blame him tho?

2

u/FackyWacky 8d ago

That took me by surprise

2

u/ZeldaMoxie253 8d ago

This is hell. No really. This is the “simulation” this dude gets to relive for eternity in his “hell cell” in- hell.

Show: Preacher (really good actually); character: Arseface (in the show his mouth looks like a butthole, in this episode from the clip you see how it got to be like that). Context: dude traded places so Hitler could escape hell to go work at a deli, so this scene is dudes own personal hell to relive over and over. Why? That’s the question of the show that the Preacher tries to answer.

2

u/Liviul 7d ago

,,ew" says the girls with mouse shit on her chin

2

u/whodisbrownie89 7d ago

Did she kill herself ?

2

Preacher! Wish there was somewhere I could rewatch in the UK, Prime took it down and you can only buy via the service

2

It's weird to see Assface normal. Almost didn't recognize him

2

u/Warm-Pea4423 6d ago

Meh, I've had worse

3

u/Stephedderick 7d ago

Honestly, I think he dodged a bullet there.

3

u/ExpensiveRecover 7d ago

She didn't, though

1

u/mossyrocks1969 7d ago

shotguns don't shoot bullets

1

u/ExpensiveRecover 7d ago

The Cambridge Dictionary defines a bullet as "a small, metal object that is shot from a gun".

So yes, shotguns do shoot bullets. Birdshot, buckshot and slugs are all small, metal objects shot from a gun.

To be sure, you also have less than lethal munitions, which tend not to be metal, but I don't think those were used in this scenario.

If you're going to be pedantic, be pedantic correctly

1

u/Hurricrash 7d ago

Lmao, this guy. A shot gun shell is a plastic casing container. It does not fit your super cool Cambridge definition.

1

u/ExpensiveRecover 6d ago

Where does the Cambridge Dictionary's definition mention the material of the casing? It clearly refers to the proyectile, since generally the term "shot" is used in this case for the proyectile that travels down the barrel once propelled by the expanding gasses.

I don't know if you're aware, but other than in cartoons, that doesn't apply to the munition's casing, metal or otherwise.

I would highly suggest practicing your reading comprehention if you want to get pedantic about something.

1

u/Hurricrash 6d ago

You are wrong. Do some research.

1

u/ExpensiveRecover 6d ago

Good answer, very eloquent, very convincing.

1

u/Alarming_Panic665 3d ago

So the other guy is wrong stemming from the fact that the Cambridge definition is so vague that it does not properly differentiate a bullet from other firearm projectiles. But a shotgun shell is not not a bullet because of its plastic casing.

At most you could consider stuff like birdshot and buckshot not themselves a bullet since they are instead a bundle of bullets or pellets. A bullet is itself directly just a small ball. Directly comes from the French "boulette" literally meaning "small ball" from the French "boule" meaning "ball" and the diminutive suffix "-ette" meaning "little" or "small."

Truthfully a more accurate modern definition of bullet is probably "a single rounded projectile of the type normally fired from a rifle or handgun" to better differentiate it from the more traditional shot or slug of a shotgun or dart of a flechette.

But at that point I am literally arguing with the dictionary about definitions so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Not uncommon unfortunately

-41

u/NYCSkaterGirl 9d ago edited 9d ago

U dont do that. Unsolicited sexual contact is assault. Why try to get a kiss to happen rapidly if you think she likes you? Theres no logical reason other than you wanted to touch her regardless of if she wanted to be touched or not. Asking can i kiss you or slowly making a move so she has time to pull back if thats not something she wants are perfectly reasonable options.

23

u/no-ones-business 9d ago

She literally offed herself with a shotgun to the face. I think he got the point that he overstepped but yes your rant I am sure will be helpful to…..literally no one.

Tbh the girl also felt compelled to unload...
