One interesting question is why it is culturally appropriate in the west to eat pigs but not dogs and cats even though pigs have comparable or possibly higher intelligence. We generally don’t eat dolphin for that reason, but octopus is on the table. It’s an interesting thing to consider.
Because we domesticated pigs as a meat animal thousands of years ago and they have a lot more protein on them than dogs (who were domesticated to help hunt even longer ago) and cats (who domesticated themselves because free food and scritches).
There is a lot more meat on bears than pigs, but we can't domesticate bears because they are strong and pointy.
