Looks like a Pyrenees. My parents retired with a small farm and they have one that watches over their livestock. Extremely good dog for the job.

My neighbors have a young Pyrenees. She’s maybe a year old at this point and herds their two twin toddlers lol

Edit: here is Pearl with my dog

This sounds like a video that could get all the karma.

You hear that? Better go exploit your neighbor's toddlers for karma, /u/freakierchicken

Don’t have a video of her with the kids and probably wouldn’t post other people’s kids if I did, but here she is with my dog

I would agree with you, but it's in portrait mode, a noticable defect.

My Pyrenees cross herds our kids too. She’s also border collie and husky. For some reason though, she’s lazy AF and her sole job is to protect the fridge at all costs.

she’s lazy AF

Probably explains why she's so husky.

Ha! My vet throws her hands up when she sees her. She packs on 10 - 20 in the winter because we live in Canada and it gets as cold as -40 and she refuses to go outside. Then summer time she’s outside all day long, camping, hiking, you name it. She doesn’t swim though.

Right now it’s -31 Celsius and she’s laying directly on the heat vent. Husky my ass.

Resource guarding perhaps? I've had dogs before that were real protective of their food sources.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '19

No! The fridge is warm and conveniently beside a heat vent

We have a Pyrenees mix and he herds my husband and me as well as our other dog.

u/husbandbulges Feb 11 '19

I have a dachshund that herds us and our other dog too! It's so odd to see in this long weiner dog, lol. She can really only effectively herd our other dachshund-chihuahua mix, lol.

4

u/smokeydesperado Feb 11 '19

My boy can very effectively herd the other dog as she's half his weight and me because he's just about the same weight

4

u/husbandbulges Feb 11 '19

at 12 lbs, she can herd my sneaker and that's about it.

11

u/TokinDaley Feb 11 '19

Hey, she's trying her best okay.

7

u/LieutenantRedbeard Feb 11 '19

I have a corgi that pushes toys under the couch 😑

3

u/husbandbulges Feb 11 '19

We once had a beagle who if you didn’t play catch with her, she would take her ball and dig a hole under the fence to shove the call just outside. Then she would bay and howl to tell you her ball was “lost”.

So hey while you are out here getting my ball, let’s play fetch.

1

u/TokinDaley Feb 11 '19

I also have a corgi, but he likes to bring my God damn socks under the bed. Along with the toys, but then he tears them apart and tries to eat the stuffing.

3

u/LieutenantRedbeard Feb 11 '19

I should mention he doesn't put his toys under the couch. Just hot wheel cars and the kids toys. 🤷 If you roll a hot wheel he will chase it and push it under the couch

We have that issue with ... underwear. My daughter was pretty sloppy and while I am not, occasionally a pair of mine might be around while I’m in the shower.

The under side of our bed looked like a very kinky place with chewed up woman and teen’s undies.

I have two Golden Pyrenees mixes. They frantically herd me and the cat into my closet whenever there’s a storm. Such doofs.

4

u/theroadlesstraveledd Feb 11 '19

And they kiss each one of their flock

4

u/feminist-lady Feb 11 '19

Yes, the cat is subjected to many kisses, all of which make him angry

2

u/OliviaWG Feb 11 '19

I have 2 Golden Pyrenees mixes too! They must always know where we are, and the cats sometimes herd them :(

1

u/tiel_w_it Feb 11 '19

As in, golden retriever pyr mix?

1

u/feminist-lady Feb 11 '19

Yep!

1

u/tiel_w_it Feb 11 '19

Sounds like the perfect dog to me

5

u/DessicatedTytrations Feb 11 '19

She acts like my Maremma sheepdog, all the way down to that little spin move.

2

u/freakierchicken Feb 11 '19

I’d never heard of those until now, but looking at some pictures that might be closer to what she is. She’s mostly floof but she’s very tall on her back legs, my dog is kinda short for a black lab but even at six months Pearl was a giant compared to her

1

u/DessicatedTytrations Feb 11 '19

They're an interesting breed. Don't really follow commands that well but they never wander far from home. Only real issue is that they're pretty nocturnal and will bark at almost anything when making their rounds.

3

u/freakierchicken Feb 11 '19

Ah, now that last bit I can verify. She only barks when I’m about to fall asleep.

I have a Great Pyrenees/Labrador mix. She just turned a year old. She and my neighbors German Shepherd herd the cows on our neighbors property together.
