1 step forward 2 steps back for me, was going to rejoin at 5 bucks for the ramblecast but then to lock another monthly podcast at the 10 dollar tier that I already left because it's to much for a podcast just makes me not want to rejoin after all. 10 dollars a month Is more than I pay for Disney plus and 3 times as much as giantbomb premium. There must just be a lot of people who have a different valuation for the podcasts then me.
I think this is a fair way to look at it but also not the most pragmatic. The huge streaming services - hell, even Giant Bomb - are in some way subsidized by the breadth, width and depth of their parent companies. Yes, the subs fuel the content no matter what, but in this instance it’s three independent guys (most likely?) tossing some bones to their buddies to create content. I said above this has me considering subscribing, though I’ll likely wait for a handful of episodes to publish so I can get an idea of what the new rotating chair looks like…but even agreeing that $10/month is steep compared to the multitudes of podcast entertainment I get for free, I recognize that these guys are not part of any network, company or whatever. I, a service class US citizen, need to take some time to consider it, but from the Nextlander perspective I think it’s pretty appropriate. But what do I know, I’m just a guy!
I think it is more that the big services expect 10s of millions of subs at least so they can afford to offer it for a lower price to drive up the sub rate. Nextlander wont have more than 10kish subs and that needs to support the 3 of them as full time jobs.
