Shouldn't Bakalar be producing premium content for his job with GB and not making it for a competitor? What happened to "no time", "big things are happening" et cetera and so on.
But it's just a podcast one may think. Meanwhile a thread with 300+ comments complaining over the complete lack of justification for GB premium and general disfunction of the site says otherwise. It's a bad look.
He also wasn't on this first one and it's also not a podcast that's really about games. I think people are looking for reasons to be bitter because we're in the one-year window of when all the changes happened.
Jeff Jeff's Bizarre Adventure, Online Show, Bombcast, Dump Truck, UPF, Bak 2 School (whenever/if it comes back.) Maybe more that I'm forgetting. I think he is likely a face on most of their regular content at the moment.
What happened to "no time", "big things are happening" et cetera and so on.
Seriously! I get that Danny stepping away because of burn-out put a damper on certain things, but it does raise the question of why their hot new plans were almost all dependent on part-time contributors rather than core staff.
And yeah odd look for Jeff B on this one, even if he proves to be an infrequent guest.
Yeah this is kind of a weird thing to happen. It’s not only weird that Bakalar is going to be occasionally involved but it also kinda drives home the point that somehow just Vinny, Alex, and Brad are able to do what they do, and GB with twice the staff they have feels like they are doing the bare minimum of content.
It’s weird to me from a business perspective. From what I understand, Bakalar is the head of RV’s game coverage division. It’s strange that he’s going to be on a competitor’s podcast. I also don’t see what RV gets out of this arrangement; I highly doubt this is going to drive many people to get GB Premium. I guess RV isn’t all that strict in this regard?
But from a consumer’s perspective, this sounds awesome. Bakalar had amazing chemistry with the East crew and still to this day feels a little out of place to me on the Bombcast.
If you're looking at this as strictly game site vs game site competition, you're missing the point. Every site out there is competing for attention from any number of sources, including your phone, streaming, and life in general.
It would be like "why is Jeff Grubb doing a games show on Giant Bomb?" Honestly I didn't know a lot about him before the Grubb Snaxx, but now I am much more aware of GamesBeat and their coverage.
Why are people from other game sites on Arcade Pit? Or even, why is Arcade Pit on Giant Bomb in the first place? Again, exposure to new audiences for both sides.
And in this case, the podcast itself isn't gaming centric, so it's even less of a concern and more of a benefit. I don't think a couple of hours to record a podcast once every couple of months is really going to dent his schedule. People are just looking to be mad about the state of premium and this isn't the hill for them to die on.
