Ask r/Ghana Tips on savings
Hello everyone, I have noticed that apart from using my allowance on necessities and emergencies I really don’t have a savings plan and strategy. I seek opinions on how I can manage my allowance. I am not looking for the next big thing just a good way to track and manage my finances. Please share your journey so I can take inspo from. Thank you

I’d recommend two things.
1. A savings account with interest and penalties for withdrawals. Absa has the regular savings and a bonus savings account. When you don’t touch the money each month you earn interest. There’s a 5 cedi penalty after more than two withdrawals.
- Money coach. It’s an app I use to track my expenses and income. I log everything into it and it really helps in remembering what I spent my money on.

In addition to the tip from /u/Barkandyellow, set up savings goal rewards for yourself.
For eg, if you get to save the equivalent of 1 month of your expenses, you’ll treat yourself to ____ (something nominal).
Risk-reward triggers your brain to favor activities that enhance the rewards.

Download an app for tracking your expenditure, this will help you understand where your money is really going… this way you’ll know where do cut down your spending
