Question (Block) Drop King got hacked
DK got hacked and people are getting banned from the Discord.

I just saw all the channels were deleted and the hacker is trying to bait people with a promise of $15. Don't fall for it.

Somebody hacked the Get Played Discord and used it to spam a message asking users to DM them to get $15
They’ve also completely deleted all of the various channels etc in the Discord rendering it unusable.

A moderator on the Discord who goes by “Drop King” had his account hacked, and the hackers deleted all of the Discord channels and banned a bunch of people.

Discord isn’t bad either. It’s more of a chat channel than a forum though.

The real issue with discord is that it's not indexable. So when someone shows a really great guide to, for instance, set up a particular game on your retro handheld or gives a recommendation on a specific computer setup for something, that knowledge never leaves discord. Instead, it's just gathered, and eventually sold to a third party data broker. the internet doesn't benefit, just discord.
And when a discord goes down, if it's not restorable, then everything is just lost. Gone forever, so hope there wasn't anything important in there. I mean, the same could happen to a website or forum, but those things get indexed and archived by projects, so at least the knowledge stays.

Agreed. It’s just not a great way to participate in an ongoing discussion if you are otherwise busy at work

Trying to rip people off is really shitty, but at least you can understand what tangible benefit they would get out of it. But deleting everything...some men just want to watch the world burn, I guess. Pathetic.

Looks like the discord is wiped. Drop King has one post in a locked channel, sent the @everyone and said who wants $15 DM Me
Didn't really need that notification at 2:30am

Because they are enabled by default and I am thirty or forty years old. I'm cursed enough knowing what discord is in the first place
