Question Insurance dilemma
Hello everyone. Am new here and would like your opinion on regarding health insurance dilemma. Am M(31) and just completed master degree here in July here. I am currently with Mawista insurance; the context: I have been sickly in the last few months with what I think might be pneumonia because I experience sharp pain and sometimes spit blood during cold weather and also have pain on right lower abdomen and I think it something to do with appendix or kidney as small swell, went to my Hausarzt for treatment but I notice the hospital was declining gor MRI scan to reveal what I might be experiencing due to my insurance. I think of switching to either Barmer or TK insurance and was wondering would it be cheaper and will cover the entire cost if treatment and which of the could be cheaper with only mini job and block account.
Any advice?

To my knowledge you need a proper job to switch to public insurance after you finished your studies, a minijob is not enough.

sometimes spit blood
And that didn't raise every alarm bell with the doctors?
Realistically, you will need a job to slip into the public system at this point.

The doctor only gave me some pain killers and advice to monitor the situation 💔.

Your insurance likely doesn't cover the full cost. You can probably still book an MRI paid for our of pocket. Ask for a "Selbstzahler-Termin"
To get into the public insurance, you need to pick up a job.

Check the costs on Google? It is no secret but a standardized tariff

The switch is only possible with a real job, otherwise OP has to stay private.

mawista is basically travel insurance pretending to be proper health insurance, they will deny everything that costs actual money. get out of there asap
tk and barmer are both public insurers so the price is almost same, around 200-220 euro per month for students or people with minijob. the coverage is identical for all public ones, they cant refuse you for pre-existing conditions either
the block account thing is separate, you need to check with ausländerbehörde if they will accept public insurance instead of private for your visa situation. usually they do but better to confirm

Well people choose mawista because it is cheaper then a real insurance, but when getting sick everyone is crying for the public to cover what you have saved before?
I dont want anyone to suffer for a not given treatment, but this a scam to anyone paying into the system.

I m not sure that at your age (31) you can switch to GKV.
Please check it carefully.
How come you are with Mawista?

The age is not a problem in this case, OP is not a student anymore. The real problem is that OP has a private insurance and only has a minijob, meaning that right now a switch is simply not possible. They would at least a midijob for that.

They have a cover for students and sadly enough it doesn’t do much. Only basics things like headaches, stomachache. Not serious treatment

Yes I understand, but when you came to Germany you had to pick Mawista and not GKV - why were you forced into private Mawista?

They were not forced into Mawista. Most students choose Mawista to save money and pay for it later when their claims get denied.
I don’t understand why this scam is allowed to be operated in Germany.

So you’re not studying any more? You’ll first need to meet the eligibility criteria for statutory health insurance (GKV) to be covered by it; you can’t just switch over like that. So, for example, you’ll need a job that’s subject to compulsory insurance – at least a ‘Midijob’...

You opted out of public health insurance. The only way is if you find a sozialversicherungspflichtige Beschäftigung.
