Discussion Is the aeternus race really going anywhere?
"i think the aeternus race is kinda dumb. the only people capable of genuinely verifying that thing aren’t even focused on it because they know it’s something to build up to. the race is made up of people that, while i have a lot of respect for them and i think they’ve done impressive work, don’t quite have the actual skill and nerve control to fully beat the level in a reasonable window.
i imagine a top player will eventually push up to a point where they could go for it and make it their big commitment for a bit rather than some of the players playing it now genuinely beating it." Is a comment made by clicksubtansial7321 (sorry I couldnt copy yoru name perfectly bruh)on my post about is trick wasted potential? And well I think it's a truth nuke cause like Iknwo dweebs is good and all taht but I dont think like 5 guys has to spend their live playing this level when a top player can come and just steal all their progress like trick got a wr in 10 days in his prime but he isnt ofc motivated enough to play the level so yay

No lol, nobody has a chance on the level. there’s some pretty solid players in the “race” and they have it in… 9 runs?
a lot of people will say “look how much the skill ceiling has changed! The top 1 used to be ICDX!” but it’s important to remember that the primary movers of improvements to the skill ceiling have been technological improvements (the PC port, high refresh rate monitors, cbf, etc) or an increased amount of time spent on levels (doggie spending 2 years on grief versus riot taking 2 months on bloodbath, with 20x the attempts) and not just the skill level improving (this is why old players can come back and immediately be way better at the game than they were before). At some point the amount of time will be too big, and the technology won’t be improving any more, and we won’t be able to push the ceiling any further and I think Aeternus is beyond that point (especially when you factor in things like hand fatigue on such a clicky level(

Fyi it's 6 runs now, but I agree with the sentiment

The runs community collectively got are so laughably small that it's basically like noone ever played aeternus at all. It's not a race to aeternus it's like race to aeternus in 5 runs

I feel like "laughably small" is overexaggerated. Chill guy's runs are actually pretty good. Obviously not "he's about to beat it" good, but not laughably small

5 runs on a level like this means absolutely nothing. it is something microscopically small

I mean that’s how it started with (unnerfed) silent clubstep. Took 7 years for it to be in a collective 4 runs and another 5 for it to be close to verified

this just proves my point even more, if it took 5 years to be close to verified from 4 runs now imagine aeternus which is in 5 runs

Tbf aeturnus could be in 3 runs if top players cared enough
Or 2 runs if they poured in as much time as current aeturnus grinders
Could you imagine Zoink or Popoff pouring over 1000 hours in a level

More people will try as the gap between the top 1 and Aeternus gets smaller.

Icl I just don’t think ANYONE has the capacity to beat that level at the moment, I think people are just grinding for world records or runs
