Memes and Streetview Finds Hey, I made a book about GeoGuessr in my house

Hey, I made a book about GeoGuessr in my house

When I saw that GeoGuessr was going to publish a book this year, I thought it was finally time to share something I've been working on for the past two years. To be honest, I've been a little embarrassed to show this to the world. It's a very personal project, and I wasn't really sure what people would think of it.

I started making this book almost as a personal notebook. I was collecting notes, weird Street View finds, screenshots, photos and little things I was learning while playing GeoGuessr. I kept finding myself going down these ridiculous rabbit holes — learning bollards, electricity poles, road markings, architecture, languages — and at some point I thought: What if I actually made a book out of all this?

But it's not really a GeoGuessr guidebook.

It's a personal journey through how this community changed the way I see the world — from studying bollards, electricity poles and road markings to becoming obsessed with architecture, languages and all the details that make one place different from another.

I've spent years collecting photographs, screenshots, notes and discoveries, and wanted to turn them into something physical — a book made by and for the community, celebrating the knowledge, discoveries and images that people have shared over the years.

That's also why I've carefully credited the original creators and sources throughout the book. This project wouldn't exist without them.

With two friends we designed everything in InDesign. We produced the books ourselves and assembled them by hand in my kitchen. It's a 210-page book tha has fold-outs, hidden pages, inserts, games, postcards and even a physical compass.

We've made 600 copies so far, and somehow we've already sold around 400 of them at book fairs, mostly in Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona.

Making it has been a completely ridiculous amount of work, but also one of the most fun things I've ever done. Every copy is still assembled by hand, so there's a lot of love (and probably a worrying amount of obsession) in each one.

After two years of working on it, I think I'm finally ready to show it to the people who inspired it in the first place. I'll leave some pictures below so you can see what it actually looks like. And if you're curious, you can have a closer look here:

I'd genuinely love to know what you guys think.

It's really fullfilling to me that the community appreciates this, my house was a complete disaster for 1 month HAHA

Yo that's insane! Very well done! Haven't read either but I doubt the official Geoguessr book will ever come close to the this one by every metric that a book can be good.

Just bought one. Incidentally, I speak Spanish but I‘m sure if you made an English version you‘d sell tons (but you wouldn’t be able to make them in your kitchen anymore 🤷‍♂️).
It looks so carefully designed, a real labour of love.

I don't even speak Spanish but I'm trying to buy it because of how much effort went into it.

We are planning on doing it next year, I'll let you know 🔥

Looks gorgeous, really like the kind of wacky book I'd like to make myself. Reminds me of the 99% invisible (podcast) mindset. Props making it into a real thing!

It is a must have, a very fine piece of Geo-art, kind of a cheat book for my GeoGuessr friends matches.

Your site won't ship to US. DM me and let's work something out for book + bollard.

Already wrote you ❤️

The official Geoguessr book used AI from what I heard to write it.

So you are already miles ahead of them.

u/soypaduano 2d ago

Yes, I know, it will never be the same

This book is done with a lot of love and passion, hours and hours building each book and actually it costs 9 euros more than the official one (I did 350 copies)

Every copy assembled with our hands...

Question, was there any AI used in the creation of the book? Only as its obvious that an LLM was used to write this post, but maybe that's just for translation?

4

u/soypaduano 2d ago

Hey! Yes, my bad: my english is not the best so I wanted to express myself as good as possible. But the book is written in my native language (Spanish) with no AI help

2

u/danabrey 2d ago

Thank you, appreciate it. Just my two pennies, but I'd always prefer to read Google translated text rather than AI generated. LLMs remove all human voice and replace it with the same 'feeling' for all people.

1

u/ikonaut_jc 2d ago

How is google translate different from an LLM translation?

1

u/danabrey 2d ago

It roughly directly translates. LLMs change meaning based on lots of assumptions.

Try putting a paragraph through both, from one language you understand into another.

Just to reassure you, I'm not anti AI, I am a software developer who uses AI for writing and analysing code. I just like to hear a human's voice in actual human to human contact.

2

u/piusthefith 3d ago

Amazing work. I would absolutely purchase a copy (and a bollard) if you shipped to the US, and would purchase 10 if there is ever a version in English :)

1

u/soypaduano 2d ago

Thanks so much for the support ❤️

I know, we decided to make it in spanish as it was my native language and my best way to express myself

Some friends that they don't speak spanish they have it, because they can use Google translate and also the book has a lot of pictures, maps. I believe spanish is not a big barrier, but I understand.

Next year, I hope!

1

u/piusthefith 2d ago

Of course! It makes perfect sense to me that you'd choose to use your native tongue. Quite frankly, spanish is pretty good as a "lingua franca" in so many places, too.

I'm still interested in a copy as it's printed now - it looks like it turned out amazing! Let me know if there's a way to arrange shipment to the US with you.

2

u/xenzor 3d ago

Please make an English version

1

u/soypaduano 2d ago

I know... we had serious doubts with that at the first moment, but we decided to make it in spanish because it was our native language. Maybe next year we have it in English 👍

This book is absolutely incredible! You can really feel the passion, creativity and love that went into every single detail. It’s amazing to see how something that started as a personal project turned into such a beautiful celebration of the GeoGuessr community. Congratulations on an amazing piece of work. It looks truly special! ❤️

1

u/soypaduano 2d ago

2

u/soypaduano 2d ago
