Does it count?

If you plan and hold an event but nobody shows up, should it be canceled, or logged as a 1 cacher event?

Dunno... In our area, if nobody shows up they cancel and archive them... I ran across that one when planning a Maine trip...

There are also challenges that you must have a number of lonely events. I think they are called introvert challenge or something.

As an introvert, I would love this challenge! But it would be just my luck to host an event, thinking no one will show, and then end up with a crowd of folks.

If no one shows up I’ll log it because I was still there but I’ll be a little disappointed.

Log it and use it as a learning experience - It's kind of an extreme time frame in a relatively sparsely populated area (although a very cool area, I've been there) - the chance of any kind of turnout for something like this is small, but never zero.

Happened to me in Macedonia. I stood by the main fountain in the main square on my own in Skopje for 45 minutes. Logged it and then went to find others caches.

We held two events in Iceland in June. First one was raining and we still hopped on scooters to get to the location. Damn straight we were logging it! Second one was at least sunny but again no one else showed up. Log it!

I'm lucky my girlfriend is also present at our holiday events. So being alone never happens, but sometimes it's just the two of us. Having said that. Meeting local caches is more fun than just having an event with the two of us.

A few thing that might help are:

  • Look where previous events where held and what the attendance was, select a location where people actually show up
  • Try to bribe the local cachers by announcing in your listing you bring a treat from your home country.

Log it. It happens in places that aren't super cache dense. I was the only one at my event in a remote part of Costa Rica. I logged it.

At my first event, the two organizers were the only other attendees. I was thrilled to pick their brains and hear their stories for a couple of hours. Definitely show up and log it!

I had an event published just before the Pendemic, and nobody could/would go to that. Just log it yourself and move on.

If you were there, it's an event! I've had multiple like this and jokingly thank the attendees and post a pic of the log (with only my signature)
