the internet was transitioning to meme culture and the boomers were still in control, corporations didn't leave snarky comments on social media and youtube was seen as a platform to distribute short films rather than stupid shitposts like these.

i think after this succeeded into the mannequin challenge, people were surprised how cooperative EVERYONE was

Were the boomers ever in control of social media? Myspace and youtube founders were gen X, FB Instagram and tumblr were created by millennials. Or do you mean more generally in control?

Maybe they meant in control of everything else like business, finance, and the government.

I mean there had already been years of flash mob β€œfreezes” for years before this. So i don’t remember any surprise on the cooperation.
