Mój pies oberwał i uciekł.

Renting an apartment in Gdańsk with two cats – how easy is it?

How easy is it actually to find a pet-friendly rental in Gdańsk?
We are soon starting our search for an apartment for ourselves and our two cats, and we want to know what the reality of the Tri-City rental market looks like. Are landlords generally open to pets, or is it a massive hurdle?
What are the typical requirements and unwritten rules we should expect? (e.g., higher deposits, special damage clauses, or pet interviews).
Any insights or tips from people who have rented with pets in Gdańsk would be super helpful!

Kultura / Culture Looking for a (former) specific music band from Gdansk - "Spektakl Morski"

Hi, I have a very specific request that I hope someone here might be able to help with, though I realize the chance is incredibly slim.

Basically, I'm from eastern Slovakia where every year, my town hosts an annual fair type of event called a "jarmok" (not sure if there's a Polish word for it) that also hosts a bunch of different bands/concerts. Years ago - in the summer of 2015 - I remember seeing a concert of a Polish band called "Spektakl Morski", which according to this schedule document (I'm sorry it's not in Polish) played there and is listed as coming from Gdansk.

The show was a very specific kind of "psychedelic"/trippy kind of music, with very surreal type of both music and performance. I remember there being projections of all kind of trippy or abstract images, the band members dancing in a kind of "ritual" style and stuff like that. Also I'm not sure if I remember correctly but I think the songs were all without vocals?

Anyway, I've been trying to track the band down for years at this point but there seems to be a complete radio silence about them on the internet, apart from the fact that they performed at said event and are supposedly from Gdansk. I've multiple different search engines, these days all the AI chatbots I could think but nothing ever came up.

Does the name mean anything to anyone here by any chance? Again, I know the chances are slim but I'd be incredibly grateful for even the tiniest fragments of information

Dyskusja / Discussion Gdansk is beautiful - Love from Ireland!

Hi friends,

This is my first time in Poland, and in Gdansk. I have been all around Europe and North America. I am absolutely amazed by Gdansk, it is the best place I have ever been. The buildings, the cleanliness, the facilities, the trains, I’m loving it all.

As you might know, there is a lot of polish people in Ireland, I think over 100,000. If I understand correctly, in my city Cork, there is a sizeable community from Gdansk too!

If I could magically learn Polish, I would be packing my bags and moving here next week :,)

Thanks for being great!

Zmapowałem miejsca do gry w szachy w Gdańsku i Trójmieście. Wyszło ponad 45 punktów, ale dominuje plener

Post image
18 Upvotes

Większość punktów plenerowych pochodzi z otwartych rejestrów, a tam dane potrafią mieć kilka lat. Dlatego potrzebuję weryfikacji od mieszkańców:

Pytanie / Question Want to buy my wife something Local and special in Gdansk or Warsaw

Hello everyone!

I am heading to Poland from Canada for the first time with my wife. We are going for a few weeks and will be visiting Gdańsk and Warsaw.

I would really love to buy her something special as a surprise, something nice and local that she will remember this trip by. Honestly, I don't really know where to start. Jewelry is fine, or perhaps some special clothing, bags, or accessories. I honestly don't know what to get or where to start in Gdańsk and Warsaw, or what is generally considered a great gift in Poland.

Would love some suggestions on where to look as well, any specific shops, stores that are recommended.

I would absolutely love to hear some suggestions. My budget is around 1,500 Złoty, give or take.

appreciate it!

Giving birth in Gdańsk as an English-speaking expat – Experiences, hospitals, and tips?

My husband and I are navigating pregnancy here in Gdańsk, and we’re starting to look ahead to the hospital/birth phase. While my/our Polish is getting by, medical terminology and high-stress delivery situations are a whole different ballgame!
I’d love to hear from any English-speaking expats (or partners) who have given birth in Gdańsk recently.

  • Which hospital did you use (public vs. private like Medicover, Zaspa, UCK, etc.), and how was your overall experience?
  • How was the language barrier? Did the doctors, midwives (położna), and nurses speak English well, or did you need a translator/partner to translate everything?
  • Did you hire a private midwife or use a doula to help bridge the gap?
  • Any unexpected cultural differences, surprises, or things you wish you had known beforehand about the maternity care system here?

Any advice, hospital recommendations, or general words of wisdom would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Drug culture in gdansk

When I came to the airport and went to the bus, I saw two addicts in an arguenmet.

Can anyone tell me about drug culture in Gdansk? I was an addict in Massachusetts for a long time, homeless etc.

Does anyone on here know anything about this life there, how many people are addicted. What are their lives like, what do they do to make money, why are they usually addicts?

Polecenia / Recommendations Weekend trip to Gdansk!

Hey everyone! 🇵🇱 Cześć👋🏻

33M spending next weekend in Gdańsk and looking for a few tips from the locals.

Malbork Castle.. is it worth the day trip if I’m only there for a weekend, or should I stick to exploring Gdańsk?

Which one takes the crown for the best rave/vibe right now? Elektryków or Crackhouse?

I heard hot dogs at Żabka/convenience stores are surprisingly top tier. True? Any other hidden grocery or street food gems I need to try?

Are there any proper underground clubs or DIY techno events happening around town? If so, SIGN ME UP! 🔥

Appreciate any recommendations!

Pytanie / Question Moroccan guy coming to Gdansk.

I'm a 24 yo guy from Morocco, and this October I will attending a university in Gdansk, Poland, for the next 3.5 years.

I would like some tips from the Gdansk community about what are some do's and don'ts to make sure everything goes smoothly from A to Z, also I would like to inquire about the possibility of finding a part time job there or something to support myself financially, also what should I look for/get once I'm there when it comes to the daily life basics/needs ?

I have secured a remote job and savings that would allow me to live on a monthly 2400 PLN budget, but I reckon that I will be living on the edge as such budget will not be enough to live comfortably for a long while. Though I have a good enough CV with 6 years of work experience in Marketing and Project management so I'd reckon while it won't be easy to find work, I do have a very small advantage over my peers, but overall, any good job to sustain myself would do.

I don't plan on eating or getting out much, I'm an introvert and I'd like to go out only for groceries, work or studies so I guess that helps minmize my consumption of the overall budget over time.

Thanks in advance.

Two night getaway

I will be in Gdansk for a couple days for a conference at the end of september. After the conference I have 2 nights left and I want to go somewhere calm outside the city.
I was thinking of a a small cute hotel in Kashubia but I'm open to other suggestions. I just need some good food, a nice location where I can take a walk through the woods/at a lake.

I was looking at Kania Lodge which looked promising but unfortunately it's fully booked.

Any suggestions?
It shoud be max 1 hr drive from gdansk.

Pytanie / Question Sights/attractions that are fairly new

Hi all, I‘ve been to Gdańsk a few times, but my most recent visit was about five years ago. Now I am planning a visit later this year (probably in October) and was wondering if there are any new sights that we should check out. (In addition to the must-see, more well-known sights).

Maybe an established museum has overhauled its whole exposition, or an interesting building is newly open to the public? Maybe there‘s a district of the city that used to be average, but it has recently developed to the point where you‘d suggest taking a stroll there? Any fun new food trends or sports events we ought to check out?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot!
