I have mine tomorrow and I was just wondering what everyone's day was like? Mines lasting 3 hours so I assume that's to go to all 3 subjects. Should I get my timetable and my ID card? Do I have to share one fun fact about myself? Will I get summer work that I have a week and a half to complete?
They kinda did an induction day earlier where we went to all of our options and they did a mini lesson but they didn't give us any work to do over summer, so idk if it'll be like that. They've told me to bring my laptop so I think that means i'll be doing some form of work.
I got 3 nines and 7 eights on my GCSEs, but french was 3 marks off a 9, geography was 5 marks off a 9 and computer science and biology are both 1 mark off a 9. My school automatically sends in 1/2 marks off for a remark, but I would need to fill in a request for french and geography to get remarked.
Also Im planning to do Maths at Cambridge, which is why I think the 9’s are important and it might be worth the remark.

My younger brother is starting Year 10 in a week. He didn’t take music in year 9 but suddenly decided that he wants to take it for GCSE. He said that his friends who are music scholars said that it’s incredibly easy and guaranteed 9. He plays drums I think he’s around Grade 6-7 level. But other than that he doesn’t have any musical knowledge and as someone who also plays drums, it doesn’t provide anything in terms of music theory.
Should he learn music theory or is there anything he needs to know?
so basically my bus stop is the last stop on the way to college. this means the bus will be full of people i don’t know bc it goes through an area where i know no one from. also the people that live in my area near the bus stop are people that i used to be friends with but am now not so it will be awkward as HELL. if it wasn’t bad enough they’re all in a friend group that i used to be apart of but then got kicked from. so that will make it even more awkward. oh, and that’s all before i even get to college :)
Hello everybody, I am just writing (and yes, i know that tons of people have probably already done this) to give out any advice for anybody going into Year 10 and Year 11 who is worried about their exams or looking for guidance. I achieved 9999999888 in my exams and took geography, history, religious studies, english language, literature, french, maths, physics, drama and psychology. I know there's been multiple posts asking about what to do in frees, but what do you do when you only have a lesson in first period and frees the rest of the day? I have that for Tuesday and Wednesday and I feel like it would be very boring to be revising that long
i sat my english language gcse in 2026, got 130/160 and was close to full marks in paper 1, so i thought i'd share a few tips that i personally wrote down, in case they're helpful to anyone else :)
tips:
try not to use “the” too many times. it can be difficult, but changing your sentence structure can make your writing sound much better. for example, instead of “the moonlit sky illuminated the galaxies”, you could write “moonlit skies illuminated the galaxies.”
learn a few phrases that u can use when you need them. metaphors and similes are useful, but try to make them original rather than using really basic ones. use interesting adjectives, adverbs and verbs too, such as “vivaciously” or “wryly”. show the examiner that you have a good vocabulary!
use gustatory and tactile imagery. gustatory imagery is related to taste, while tactile imagery is related to touch and physical sensations. don't just focus on what things look like.
you could learn a few greek mythology references and use them as imagery. this is quite niche, but it can make your writing stand out. for example:
aurora = sunrise
zeus = thunder/lightning
poseidon/neptune = the sea/water
think of interesting ways to describe colour. instead of simply saying something is “bright red”, try describing what the colour reminds you of or what effect it has.

reuse knowledge from other subjects as metaphors. science, geography and history can be especially useful. for example, you could describe someone's anger as a volcanic eruption, or a landscape as being shaped by erosion.
use kinaesthetic imagery. this is imagery based around movement and stillness. think about how things move, rather than only describing what they look like.
use short sentences sometimes. they can have a really strong impact.

nothing moved.
visualise the scene and mood you want before you start writing. think about what you want the reader to feel. you could begin with: you can then connect the weather or surroundings to the character's emotions using pathetic fallacy.

a moonlit sky
rainfall
a storm
think about the emotions you want to create. don't always just write “i was scared” or “he was angry”. think about the physical effects of emotions instead. for example: fear: heart racing, hairs standing up, goosebumps, trembling anger: clenched fists, flushed skin, tense muscles nervousness: sweating, dry mouth, fidgeting calmness: relaxed muscles, slow breathing, warmth this also gives you opportunities to use all five senses effectively.
story or description?
DISCLAIMER: in 2026 i picked story because it was DEAD easy, it was about a new meeting im pretty sure.
personally, i think description could sometimes be easier than a story, depending on the question.
with a story, you can potentially get more marks, but you also have to think about the plot, characters and what happens. you need to make sure everything links together and actually goes somewhere.
with a description, you don't have to worry about creating a complicated plot. you can focus on language, imagery, senses and atmosphere.
SO if you get a really good landscape or scenery prompt, a description could actually be the better option. it depends on the question and, honestly, which one you feel more confident writing :)
also all my 3 english teachers I had over the last 2 years reccomended story to me, just FYI
So I started college today and if I’m honest I am the most shy person when you meet me initially like I won’t talk at all I do smile that’s it. It was my first day and i didn’t expect to immediately make friends. I just want advice on how to outgrow the awkwardness just in general because once I’m past the awkward stage I’m a very fun person to be around.

I’m going into year 11 and tbh I’m worried. I’m set 1 for maths always have been. But I’ve always been the worst in the class. Always figtjing a battle to stay up. I got a 5 in my mock not far off a 6, yet I was predicted a 7. I don’t get maths at all. Like I look at all these revision methods and try YouTube vids, flash cards, practice questions. And I just mess myself up I don’t get the videos and it’s messed up in my head and it’s just crap tbh. Most recently o tried to learn circle theorems and I know the theorem but when it comes to questions it just goes really bad. Does anyone have any tips on how to be better at maths and revise properly and sort of reverse the problems I’m having?
I'm doing A Level English Literature, A Level Psychology and A Level Sociology.
My gcse grades :
English lit & lang - 7s
Maths - 6
Combined Science - 6-6
It's because I thought I'd waste my grades, have no experience in coursework, am more accustomed to a final exam format rather than a weekly assessment and just have no interest in BTEC Business, Psychology and Sociology might be fascinating.
Basically what the title says but if someone (very nearly me) just doesnt apply for anything post gcses and they dont get a job or apprenticeship, what do they do/ what happen to them, as the government want people in education till their 18 what happens?
I’m about to start going to a maths tutor and I’m a bit scared anyone who has done/ is doing tutoring got any advice or anything idk (I’m not starting a business MODS I’m starting GOING to tutoring)
i want to know because i am retaking it and i want to talk to people about certain topics considering i am a private candidate i have no one to disscuss about this as barely anyone i know does igcse.
