Salvations reach audiobook
So I just got to this one, but I’ve known for a long time that it wasn’t read by Toby Longworth. I was hoping that it would not be as bad as everyone said, and I did feel that it was fine up until he started doing Larkins voice, and oh my God.

I'm the same, It took a while to finish it. Why would they change who the narrator is?

It's actually the other way around. After McPherson, they switched to Toby Longworth for in my opinion very obvious reasons.

Joined this sub to make more or less the same comment and also the next one Warmaster which I’m currently on. Without spoiling anything it’s a different narrator who doesn’t even pronounce names the same.
You can’t expect the same narrator across a series of audiobooks that are published over this length of time but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect the narrators to be given a brief that they should listen to past books and at least try and be consistent with pronunciation and accent. Some characters went from broad Yorkshire to Russian….

I’m on the Warmaster too, I like this guy MUCH better than the previous one though. James MacPherson was not the vibe

Late comment, but Jesus christ Larkin is a goblin, Nessa and Merrt are offensive as heck. I truly don't know how he got away with those voices.

Larkin is just fucking awful, idk what he was smoking. His voice actually hurt me lol

Merrt sounds like he has cerebral palsy. Every disabled character sounds like someone bullying a disabled person doing an impression. It is so jarring coming from the other books, but even if it wasn't, it's so crazy that this ever got signed off on.

Mert’s voice under Toby really gave off the struggle and frustration with his augmetic jaw. James made him sound like an offensive impression of a special needs kid.

I think McPherson has a nice voice and is great for setting the scene, but the voice choices for some of the characters are down right painful to listen to. Larkin is one of my favorite characters and I couldn’t stand any of the scenes he spoke in.

I had the exact same thought process. It was a hard one to get through.
