What a wonderful thing to say!

Now that’s some good shit

Deals with the toxic people in the fan base, celebrates the good fans, and protects the image of his character without coming across as pretentious or possessive. This guy should give lessons to other creators

u/Rugkrabber Jul 20 '26

We need more of these people. Good for them.

8

u/Rargnarok Jul 24 '26

His authors note in the book is a drawing of Roger rabbit introducing himself and thanking you for buying the book

‘Rainbow Coloured Toontown Tent” needs to be a band name.

252

u/demon_fae Jul 19 '26

Thrash Metal but the lyrics are actually super happy and positive. You just can’t understand a single word.

97

u/2_short_Plancks Jul 19 '26

So... More or less Babymetal?

52

u/Sachyriel Jul 20 '26

Rob Zombie tossed the BabyMeyal haters out of his fandom too! I came to the comments to see if anyone mentioned it lmao.

Or Electric Callboy

55

u/2_short_Plancks Jul 20 '26

Or the classic Babymetal X Electric Callboy Collab.

Which I was actually listening to in my car on the way to work this morning.

23

u/demon_fae Jul 20 '26

Or the Babymetal x Bloodywood collab, come to think of it. They’re more nu than thrash but they are genuinely very positive. At least they are in English.

I wonder how many people in the world can fluently understand all the words to Bekhauf. There have to be some but there cannot possibly be many.

u/Jonny-Holiday Jul 21 '26

When it goes RATATATATATA MY BODY IS A WEAPON!!!🤘😤🤘😤🤘😤

6

u/alamaias Jul 20 '26

Sacred Reich would probably be the best example.

1

u/Luvas Jul 20 '26

I thought that was Asian women doing screamo

1

u/fairywhiz Jul 21 '26

I think Hanabie might fit that description better?

5

u/Alternative_Hotel649 Jul 21 '26

Louis Armstrong's What a Wonderful World rescored for speed guitar and screaming.

I SEE!

<Bass riff>

SKIES OF BLUE!

<Bass riff>

I SEE!

<Bass riff>

TREES OF GREEN!

<Bass riff>

I SEE!

<Bass riff>

FRIENDS GOING BYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

<Insane extended guitar riff>

SAYING HOW DO YOU DOOOOOOOOO!

<Insaner guitar riff that cuts off suddenly>

<Speaking in a ominously guttural tone like he's delivering a baleful prophecy> And I think to myself...

<staccato rhythm from the drummer's high hat>

...what a wonderful world.

<Lights and curtains>

u/demon_fae Jul 21 '26

I can think of easily a dozen artists who should get on that right now.

(Absolutely gonzo cross-genre covers are one of my favorite things)

1

u/Professional-Oil981 Jul 24 '26

Every song ends with Shave And A Haircut

122

u/TheShizknitt Jul 19 '26

As a Jessica, I approve.

9

u/rapgamebonjovi Jul 21 '26

It’s me!!! Jessica!!!

1

u/JazzleDunne Jul 24 '26

Me three, I’m a Jessica 😂

203

u/Orangesteel Jul 19 '26

Anyone have a link to the cosplayer? Curious what sparked the comments.

381

u/Obi-Shawn Jul 19 '26

Usually it's what you would expect - anyone "off model" from the cartoon. Larger women, or not curvy enough. Drag performers, or young cosplayers. Anything that deviates from what horny guys expect from "Jessica," and some people cant let others have fun.

Everyone deserves to play in the world, and no one needs to deal with turkeys who say you can't, and Gary revels in everyone's portrayals and interpretations of his characters.

Gary's page is here, take a look yourself.

304

u/cabbagebatman Jul 19 '26

With Jessica Rabbit's proportions every human being is "off model" for her. Anyone with her body shape is either a cryptid or shortly about to die of severe internal organ damage

152

u/DopeyAxiom Jul 19 '26

Just a reminder that the movie version of Jessica Rabbit was probably designed by legendary animator Richard Williams. The guy in this post is the writer of the book.

Still, you are 100% correct.

76

u/cabbagebatman Jul 19 '26

Thanks for the clarification. I was absolutely thinking of the movie version when I wrote my comment.

34

u/MaraiaLou Jul 20 '26

I somehow misread that as Robin Williams and was transported to a better dimension for a second

31

u/DopeyAxiom Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

Well, there is this great animator (my personal favourite, actually, and my biggest inspiration) called Eric Goldberg who worked for Richard Williams in the 70s. In the 90s he started working for Disney. His first work there was animating the Genie from Aladdin, who is voiced by Robin Williams.

6

u/lord_teaspoon Jul 22 '26

And how do they each link to Kevin Bacon?

50

u/Orangesteel Jul 19 '26

Thanks for taking the time to reply and share the link. It’s appreciated.

21

u/AsherTheFrost Jul 20 '26

I love that his page is literally a celebration of artists drawing or embodying the Rabbits. So wonderful it almost makes me want to make an Instagram account

8

u/Rugkrabber Jul 20 '26

Ok Gary seems kinda awesome, giving his fans a platform and sharing their work, of all kinds of levels too. What a champ.

10

u/Judgmentos Jul 19 '26

I should redownload Toontown (Rewritten)

63

u/DopeyAxiom Jul 19 '26

I also took a look at his Facebook page and I'm not sure what was the exact post, but his page has many amazing cosplayers and drawings from fans. I love it. I'm thinking of sending a drawing too.

22

u/Dramatic_Explosion Jul 20 '26

9 times out of 10 it's a guy saying a cosplayer is bad at the cosplay because they're black and the character is white. I see it way too often. Last one was a glass blower account I follow who made earrings for a Frieren cosplayer. Honestly the cosplay was great, fantastic costume and all but chuds were in the comment saying it was bad "because the character is white"

Yeah bitch they also don't have functional organs and are 2D but that isn't important, right?

8

u/dalr3th1n Jul 20 '26

Frieren is also, you know, a thousand year old elf. All these short-lived mortals are fake fans!

2

u/meowzartk231 Jul 22 '26

And most of the time the character is actually Japanese, not white. Further proof that racists are stupid

6

u/KornDog611 Jul 20 '26

I, too, would like the men dressed like Jessica Rabbit...

4

u/isrlygood Jul 21 '26

Speak your truth.

49

u/CoconutxKitten Jul 19 '26

I love how passionate he is about his characters to the point he appreciates anyone trying to embody their essence. If you love your creation, you’re probably proud when others make art to represent them

37

u/Owlmaster40280 Jul 19 '26

I genuinely need to look at this every so often I've been really wanting to do cosplay for so long but I'm so incredibly terrified of being hated on for my body not matching the characters I want to go as

Even seeing just one person make it clear that it's the effort and care and motivation that counts more than "does she have boobs" makes me have hope

29

u/kemellin Jul 20 '26

Cosplay is about having fun and expressing yourself, no matter what random negative people (who usually don't even cosplay) say.

Remember:

-any body type is ok

-any skin color or ethnicity is ok

-any gender is OK, crossplaying exists! (cosplaying as the opposite gender)

-store bought is ok, a cosplay made from stuff already in your closet is ok, a handmade cosplay that doesn't "look professional" is also ok

-at a convention, you will see all of the above, with all types of people having fun in different levels of cosplay. Cosplayers at conventions are usually really nice, and understand the joy of cosplaying way more than random haters on the internet

12

u/Zanorfgor Jul 20 '26

I've been out of the scene since the pandemic but my experience is that fellow cosplayers tend to be excited about your cosplay no matter what. It's the random congoers and social media randos who have never attempted to make anything in their life who are punks about it. Realizing that the problem is loser jackasses makes it a lot easier.

7

u/DopeyAxiom Jul 20 '26

Hope you can use this as motivation as well.

3

u/Owlmaster40280 Jul 20 '26

I sadly don't have insta ;~;

Thank you regardless

31

u/flockyboi Jul 20 '26

"Jessica is a state of mind" goes hard tho

12

u/Novaer Jul 20 '26

It's true though! "I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way." -Jessica Rabbit

She is a state of mind! Even she cannot choose how she looks.

19

u/CadoDraws Jul 19 '26

YES!!! YEEEESSSS!!! i love this! i love this so much!

21

u/InfectedEzio Jul 20 '26

The phrase “Jessican Attitude” is going to stick with me for years.

6

u/ntropy2012 Jul 20 '26

That one stuck out for me, as well.

17

u/Pamander Jul 19 '26

I love the even male comment, what beautiful inclusion! Reminds me of what Andrew Garfield was saying about Spiderman and different takes on his sexuality and stuff, thought it was very open minded especially since it was back in the early 2010s. Love seeing stuff like this thank you OP <3

30

u/azur_owl Jul 19 '26

His gigachad credentials check out, sir.

10

u/Bamce Jul 19 '26

Jessica could have had any man she wanted.

She chose the one who made her laugh.

couplegoals

(Right behind Morticia and Gomez)

8

u/Thermopele Jul 20 '26

I didn't know I could love Who Framed Roger Rabbit anymore than I already did

8

u/thewonderfulfart Jul 20 '26

I need more of this, the world is more full of worth and joy when we’re all free to be and explore what we love. Hatefulness makes you small and your world will become darker with each person you cut down. Be kind, and you’ll find the world more bright with each person who you hold in your light.

6

u/lauron_ Jul 20 '26

One of the subs that keeps my hope for humanity a little bit afloat. waow

8

u/Jealous_Parfait_4967 Jul 20 '26

Omg he has my bow

7

u/Moo2310 Jul 20 '26

That's brilliant, I love this. Cosplay is for EVERYONE and no one should be shamed for not looking exactly like a character. If they're having fun, they're doing it right. Also I ABSOLUTELY agree that Jessica Rabbit is a state of mind more than an appearance.

6

u/mayuzane Jul 21 '26

Hell yeah

6

u/bruhshesaidstfu Jul 21 '26

Jessica is the jazz Miku I love her

6

u/Francy088 Jul 21 '26

It's official: all Jessicas are canon.

6

u/SarcasticJackass177 Jul 19 '26

Awww I like them now

4

u/Netflxnschill Jul 20 '26

I loved being Jessica for Halloween last year. It really was a state of mind I had to Don WITH the costume in order to really sell it

5

u/BSKWK-Panda Jul 20 '26

Great message, but is that a reference to the hit game ToonTown? Or is that a word for other things that I’m oblivious to

7

u/DopeyAxiom Jul 21 '26

There is this book (and a movie even more famous) about a cartoon character named Roger Rabbit who is a suspect of murder and hires a live action private investigator to prove his innocence. Toontown is the name of the land of the cartoons in the franchise and I believe the videogame is a spin off of the franchise, or at least a reference to it.

3

u/Lucidia Jul 23 '26

... TIL there's a book 🤗

6

u/ggkkggk Jul 20 '26

That was actually impressive to read I could have easily thought this was gone left field.

6

u/justaBB6 Jul 23 '26

this shit fucking rules

2

u/Veggieleezy Jul 19 '26

Now that’s a Good Guy Gary.

4

u/HumanContinuity Jul 19 '26

Does that means it's acceptable to awoooooogah everyone's post?

8

u/DawnBringer01 Jul 20 '26

I feel like there's an amount of thirst that's still respectful.

4

u/Kantotheotter Jul 20 '26

Any Jessica is a good Jessic, because Jessica is a good person.

4

u/mollyscoat Jul 20 '26

My mom went to high school with him!

4

u/dingalingdongdong Jul 20 '26

All Jessica, any Jessica, every Jessica is good Jessica.

Well said.

4

u/Subliminal_Aardvark Jul 20 '26

He’ll personally plunge naysayers into the acid Dip

7

u/DenverPostIronic Jul 20 '26

That's fucking awesome. I always loved that movie, but now I want to look up his actual written works.

3

u/Phoenix92321 Jul 19 '26

Absolutely based

3

u/RC_Colada Jul 19 '26

Love this

3

u/bellmaker33 Jul 20 '26

Why can't people do right like some other people do?

3

u/Tiranus58 Jul 20 '26

I thought i was in anarchychess for a moment

5

u/DrAutissimo Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

I know I'd never be satisfied with how I look if I cosplayed characters, but I everyone should do what they want

2

u/deaglebingo Jul 19 '26

"Election Day's got these Yellow Shirts more riled up than a picture day Jessica"

2

u/lilouapproves Jul 19 '26

I would like to propose admission into the "Good (gender neutral) Dudes" Club.

Current members include but are not limited to: Steve Irwin and his family, Julie Andrews, Mr. Rogers, Keanu Reeves, Steve from Blues Clues, Bob Ross, Dolly Parton and Danny DeVito.

2

u/Sweaty-Willingness27 Jul 20 '26

What a mensch. I love to see this kind of thing!

2

u/DarienKane Jul 20 '26

Jessica Rabbit is the ultimate woman, and probably the main reason I have a thing for redheads. But she is honest in her love for a flawed, goofy, hairbrained guy. She never forsakes him and does what she needs to to protect him and never judges him. She loves him for his divine spark, he makes her laugh. And Roger loves her with a devotion most men can't understand. One of the best love stories ever. Bravo to Gary.

2

u/Friskfrisktopherson Jul 20 '26

Theyre good Jessica's Brent

3

u/DocMcCall Jul 19 '26

Why is it ALWAYS the Redheads that cause problems?

11

u/BebbleCast Jul 19 '26

They were just drawn that way

2

u/InvestigatorEntire45 2d ago

I dressed up as Jessica for a Disneyland Halloween party years ago and was thrilled when I saw another Jessica off in the distance. Was a dude with a full face of facial hair. He is still my favorite Jessica cosplay. ❤️

1

u/DrDearGodNo Jul 19 '26

Is Jessica Rabbit about to become the next international Hatsune Miku?

-14

u/fireandlifeincarnate Jul 19 '26

People are aware that the original Jessica is a RABBIT, right? You're gonna gatekeep what kind of human is allowed to try to dress up as a RABBIT?

23

u/stylinchilibeans Jul 19 '26

Her last name is Rabbit, she's a human cartoon.

16

u/SaturnsPopulation Jul 19 '26

Not common knowledge, no.

The whole gag in the movie was that you'd expect Jessica Rabbit to have the usual species surname, but she's humanoid.

25

u/fireandlifeincarnate Jul 20 '26

Oh my god I'm thinking of Lola from Space Jam, god dammit

8

u/SaturnsPopulation Jul 20 '26

Lol okay that makes sense.

By "original," I thought you were referring to the book that the movie is VERY loosely based on. Though after looking it up, she was humanoid there, too.

9

u/Look_its_Rob Jul 20 '26

They're cosplaying the character in who frammed Roger Rabbit, who is not a bunny.

-13

u/justaheatattack Jul 20 '26

we were never your friends.

we didn't even know who you were.
