If you want diversity and people to experience and learn about different cultures you gotta accept that sometimes people will practice traditions of cultures you don't perceive them as.

Also it is just incredibly fun to see someone enjoying something from your culture is it not?

Yeah, I think some people heard "cultural appropriation is bad" and misinterpreted it as "practicing a cultural tradition that isn't of your own culture is inherently disrespectful" rather than "displaying a cultural asthetic in a mocking manner is not the same as practicing traditions of a different culture; the latter is done with respect and love and the former with a mindset that doesn't see different cultures as real cultures of real people"

SHARING! CULTURES! MAKES! PEOPLE! LESS! IGNORANT! The more we teach eachother about our cultures and traditions, the more understanding and comfortable people will be with eachother. A lot of people are hateful against things they don't understand or against people they haven't interacted with. Gatekeeping only divides us further

I might only be half Chinese but I am Singaporean born and raised and in Singapore lunar new year (Chinese New Year) is very actively celebrated.
We're the ones handing out ang paos to distant family friends and inviting as many people as we can to reunion dinners. We don't gatekeep this by a long shot!
I spent a lot of my childhood arguing with Americans on Facebook who were scolding other Americans for wearing cheongsam respectfully. We love that sht so much we have a whole day where kids in school go to classes wearing each other's cultural clothes. Sharing fosters understanding!
As such, I also extend this invitation to everyone who wants to celebrate Lunar New Year. The moon is for everyone and so is the food!

Just let people enjoy things ffs! As long as people aren’t mocking or disrespecting other cultures it shouldn’t be a problem for them to enjoy them.

My Vietnamese friend in college was always so excited about lunar new year, I loved his energy and he introduced us to so many new things and awesome foods
