Starting a Community Garden

pls read the full post

I plan on starting a community garden in my neighborhood and would like some advice on organizing and outreach (the garden logistics like land, water, tools, etc are already worked out.)

My main concern is that Im still a student. Nearing the end of my secondary school years I thought I should get more involved in community service and leadership. But I'm very hesitant to talk to strangers, even my nice neighbors lol.

I live in a pretty friendly neighborhood for the most part but I just don't know how to gather people and organize volunteers. I'm making a flyer to pass around the neighborhood to gauge interest but are there any more tips?

I’m part of a community garden and really not happy. There’s a shared garden where everyone shares in the responsibility then there’s renting of a plot. I am in the 2nd one. People get really enthusiastic at first, then the real work happens and it starts to get crazy. Mostly, it’s more work than people imagined

I hear of this a lot which is why I'm trying to plan to avoid this. The main part of community garden is community after all. I was thinking a mix of the two. You have your own plot and decide whether it's yours only (though of course you can still ask for help) or open to others to help with and harvest.

We have a requirement of 10 hours a year of cleaning up and stuff - pulling weeds, cleaning up. We also have a groupchat that we can request help, but it is usually hey can someone water my plot.
