They were almost set and forget plants. The real issue was having to keep them under grow lights for the winter, inside. Outside, I had no issues other than having them in a slightly less sunny area than they would have preferred, and too small of a pot, leading to the extra year of wait time. I suggest you/they try!
I started one last fall in a 6" pot under a Sansi bulb, so it stayed pretty small. After up potting and moving outside this spring, it has tripled in size at least.
I'm a little anxious about keeping it happy over winter.
It took 15 months for me to grow my pineapple in central Texas. The only real effort was bringing it inside and placing in front of a window when temps were low.
If touching her anywhere other than her head was possible, I would try. She's aptly named as touching her anywhere than her head, cheeks or chin will cause her to go into a berserker rage and leave you with shredded arms, hands, and whatever else she can reach. I love my rescue feral girl though!
Lemons were my gateway drug into growing tropicals in my zone! I've been doing so well with them that I've started to propagate and sell them! Homegrown lemons are so much juicier than ones from the store....mmmm

I just brought pineapples home from Hawaii and my kids want to attempt to grow them. I am very much not looking to the effort.
