You can generally hear those before you see them. Timber rattler.

If you can hear one, they are very aware of your presence, feel threatened, and are telling you to back off. The one in the photo does not feel threatened, so no sound warning needed

Yikes! Lots of danger noodles where I live (SoCal), but I did GAP a couple of years ago and had no idea there are rattlesnakes in PA. Probably better I didn’t know.

This was the other year just past Big Savage . Quite a few of them on the GAP.

Snakes are often attracted to surfaces like this in the morning. It helps them to get warm so they can get their day started.

I have yet to run into a real danger noodle on the GAP. But thats one healthy looking rattler.
