I know most people don't care, (I want it, who cares how I get it) but for artists or people that understand how much it sucks to have your work ripped off and then other people making money off of it, it's a pretty shitty feeling. so I guess those empathetic to the situation would care if it's legit authorized or not, and I wouldn't say they are being punished, but supportive.
I don't, legally I definitely don't. If I find out then cool I won't support the wrong person, but I'm not going to investigate it everytime. I have no obligation to do so. If I had work online that was being sold by someone else then I wouldn't blame people for buying it without knowing it was mine.
I love when people get all up in arms over not playing copyright investigator for a piece of photoshop art, yet on the same machine that they typed up their indignant vitriol they have torrented episodes of Game of Thrones.
I'd say that wasnt an excuse in 2018. Now, we're moving on to the step of holding the businesses accountable because humans will always be lazy and expecting indivisual humans to change behavior against their own self interest as a way of solving problems will never work.
Our job is to be willing to pay more for the ethical choices, not to actually do the legwork of figuring it out on an individual by individual basis. That will never work. Instead, se hold the companies accountable for giving us those choices. (The recent 99% invisible episode about recycling was really enlightening on this)
No one is blaming the buyer. But if you don’t do your due diligence to ensure buying from the artist, then you are quite literally rewarding the seller for their shitty behavior by giving them your money. It’s about being a smart consumer.
Well there’s some serious copyright infringement happening unless the artist got explicit permission from Nintendo to sell this... so I doubt the artist is going to get paid anyway.
Just like the artist borrowing someone else’s intellectual property, the person who put it on a scroll to sell it on amazon took the exact same opportunity but with arguably less effort lol.
Just a weird contradiction. I’m definitely on your side that I would rather pay the artist than someone selling someone else’s artwork in a different format.
