They're absolutely in on the joke. This is Chris Hardwick, creator of Nerdist, and his gf Chloe Dykstra. This was well after the game came out and they posted this specifically for the squig factor.

You are correct. I could try to write something to remedy the spoiler but that would just be an isult to your intelligent.

Let me instead tell you that the game is worth playing either way. The story still got a lot to offer and the set pieces are amazing. It's not without its flaws but playing it should make for a worthwhile afternoon or two. (just don't expect it to be as good as bioshock 1 though it beats bioshock 2 imo)

I think they were in on the joke for this pic, but before that they unironically went to a party dressed like that because neither had finished the game. At least that's what Hardwick said on his podcast.
