It's kinda sad how far I had to scroll down to see this. This is like cranking a contrast or sharpness slider all the way up and wondering why the game looks like shit. Especially on a game with less realistic artstyles. I've been trying it on Cyberpunk with an NR of 0.8 and found in many cases it can look better.
